2 years in a row with bad portal acquisitions

2 years in a row we have missed on the portal. Dunn and Uzan.

Yeah, pretty bad.

I actually like Uzan as a player. I just wish we had another PG that could drive lanes and dish to spell him. Just like last year, we had no backup for Shead, and I see that’s a problem once again.

Moreover, if SDSU can replace 4 starters with two good guards and a couple of 7-footers that can play D and score, I’m not sure why it’s so hard for Houston.

Have you been to San Diego?

This is correct.

Uzan is WAY below Shead… Not even close.

Next year we have the cure.

Haha. Plenty. It’s beautiful!

Tbf - that’s around the time NIL started, and it’s been alluded to (and straight up confirmed) that sometimes we’ve gotten out-bid by other teams for players we were initially going after as our first choice for specific positions.

Jamal Shead is the greatest point guard ever to play here. His number will be retired, he will go into the Hall of Honor, and one day will be in the College Basketball Hall of Fame.

Of course, Uzan is below him. Way below him.

I think Uzan can get a lot better if he learns how to be more aggressive driving the lanes. Again, a backup PG means you can slide him over to another guard spot when Cryer and Sharp aren’t on their game. He’s actually shooting the ball pretty good. The lack of aggressiveness is concerning, though.

He is so passive. Shuts dribbles the ball with zero intentions of driving and dishing. And then just passes it out to someone and then they have to do something

I actually like Uzan and believe there’s hope for the guy. I’m more concerned with the other two guards that shouldn’t be getting PT over Miller.

Yep. My hope is for Mercy to get up to speed on the defensive end so he can start getting more PT. As I see it, that’s the ticket to getting better.

I believe Uzan had one of his best games of his playing career when we played them in Norman last year.

Shead my all time favorite Coog, but he was never in the class of Rob Williams as a shooter or playmaker.
Sure we miss Shead big time, but Uzan has only played 7 games so at least give him a chance to completely learn his teammates.
He isn’t the reason we have lost 3,games.
We have absolutely zero scorers inside. We had way too many shots blocked and we were soundly kept off the boards.
Uzan is closer to helping on offense than our bigs tonight.

He scored 6 points in that game.

I just remember them talking about him quite a bit.

The biggest thing Shead would do that Uzan doesn’t is he would just put his head down and go, then inside the paint he’d look to see what was available. Uzan needs to learn to just go, bull in China shop, then see what’s there.

As Kelvin would say trying to post mordem autopsy this loss and determine why is tough.
But something has to give.

3 losses already. 2 in overtime

Why didn’t Miller play, at all?

Miller didn’t play in tonight’s loss. Mercy and Malik are our only guards on bench who normally score.

LJ and Sharp are having to do everything.

Miller also saw 0 minutes in loss to Auburn and another game we win.

Unfortunately I’ve missed allot of games being in Europe for vacation. Trying to figure out what the problem is.

Cryer has nisssd consecutive game winning shots. Feel bad for him. Cryer’s FG % for the season is really bad! And it’s hurting us but there is no where else to go. How can we help him?

Box score says very little scoring from forwards and nothing from bench tonight. Arceneaux normally puts up 9-10 but perhaps his Achilles was hurting.

Have the whole season in front of us. This team could be special but have to figure things out. All starts with defense. I figured Alabama and auburn would score but surprised we could not shut down the Aztecs.

We only turned them over 4 times in regulation.
