Tanner Touck vs Seth Romero tonight ??! If so, I’m going to watch it!

So 18 games in and I was looking at Nolan today to see how the Coogs are doing:

http://warrennolan.com/baseball/2017/schedule/Houston

Coogs are 13-5 overall
10-2 at home
2-2 on the road
1-1 at neutral sites

Current RPI is #15
Current SOS is #21
Projected RPI is #22

We’re 5-4 against Top 50 RPI teams
6-0 against 101-200 RPI teams
2-1 against 201+ RPI teams

Some notables:

  • Losses came against Baylor x2 (#4 RPI), Fullerton (#8 RPI), Missouri (#21 RPI), and HBU (#249 RPI ??)
  • Wins over Baylor (#4), Fullerton (#8), Wake Forest x2 (#18), & Mcneese State (#42)
  • 7 more games against Top 50 RPI teams (ECU x3, @USF x3, @McNeese State)
  • 4 of 5 games against Top 100 RPI teams this week, all on the road - ULL #67, UC Irvine #71

Where’s Rice?

  • Currently 6-16 and sitting at #106 in the RPI :fearful:

American Athletic Conference:

  • Currently Ranked 5th overall behind Big12, SEC, ACC, and Pac 12
  • Houston is the highest ranked RPI team at #15; USF (19), ECU (49), UCF (72), Memphis (80) all are in the Top 100
  • Where’s Tulane? Currently 6-13 and 258th in the RPI
  • USF is 19-1 and has won 18 in a row, including a win at FSU. However, they’ve played zero Top 50 teams so far - will play 4 games against Top 50 teams this week
  • Preseason Conference favorite, ECU, is struggling to get going so far. Currently 4-7 against Top 50 teams and just got swept at home by Mercer this past weekend. Their pitching is highly questionable as they are giving up 4.5 runs per game so far (Houston 3.2).
  • UCF has jumped out to a 17-4 record, but has played a cupcake of a schedule. They do have a win over Florida (as well as a loss), but are 4-4 overall against Top 100 teams

What’s this mean for the Coogs?
Well, the good news is that the Coogs look to be the best team in the conference right now even with USF’s hot start to the season. If the Coogs can keep this going, the question may come up about hosting a regional. However, the schedule may kill any chance the Coogs have. Normally, the schedule usually has tough opponents like Rice 3x or 2 series against Tulane, but both those teams are struggling badly this year which will drag the Coogs down even if they are able to win. Basically, the Coogs are going to need to win a lot to have a chance.
