He states the flip was because of “financial and academic purposes”.

Smart kid. UT coaches have been known to lie to special teams players before.

Kids and families need to make hard decisions all the time. There is less burden both financially and academically for kids to go to UH. Glad that we could pick him up.

Sounds like he was promised some financial aid and it did not come through

Fixed it for you.

You may not be aware that it is more expensive to go to UH than UT or TAMU per an article in the Chronicle not to long ago. Dr. Khator says we want the same education and amenities but we don’t get the same funding. The money has to come from somewhere and that somewhere is the students.

And now that the system schools are in place there are viable alternatives for area students who cannot or choose not to enroll at the main campus. You can’t have it both ways. If Khator continues to push UH academics to be on par with UT and A&M there will be students who don’t qualify academically or financially. But, again the system schools are open and ready for business.

I actually wasn’t aware of this. The economics makes sense. I wonder if it takes into account cost of living, etc. I’d like to read that article.

Also on Thursday, regents approved a 3.5-percent tuition increase for undergraduates for UH’s 2019 and 2020 fiscal years. The figure, UH said, was in line with proposed increases from Texas Tech University and Texas State University.

UH administrators said Thursday that the tuition increase would keep faculty pay competitive, increase financial aid and update facilities to give students a better shot to succeed in college. The state has given less money per student credit hour to universities since 2011, adjusted by the consumer price index, making the increases necessary, UH said.

I recently met a young man from California who’s studying engineering at PVAM. I subtly asked him “why?” and he said it was about 1/2 cost of attending UH.

What do people expect when we dont have the privilage of using the PUF as we please.

To be fair, it isn’t as if UH is that much more than UT or A&M, or any other school in the state. We’re talking about maybe less than a hundred dollars a semester.

The issue is Higher Ed Funding in the state as a whole.

I attended both UT and UH, and UT was about 4,000 a semester while UH was about 2,000. I find it hard to believe UH is now more expensive

Depends on how long ago you were a student. I will occasionally track tuition because I have friends and family member of friends that go to U of H. About the time Dr Khator took over tuition has been on a steady incline but so has the quality of our great university. So I can actually believe that tuition has gone up, especially since we get none of the PUF in comparison to ut.

I just googled it, and UT is at $5400 per semester and UH is at 5,000. Tuition and fees.

Google? Fake news. Jk. Still a lot closer than it used to be. Before Dr Khator it was a little over a 5th, roughly speaking.
