2021 Bowl Season - more eligible teams than bowl spots

Have I ever mentioned I love bowl games?

Do you have him on record as saying that? Most coaches like the bowls simply to allow more practice days.

When did you grow up? I remember 7-3 and even 6-4 teams going to bowls when I was a kid in the 50’s and early 60’s. I don’t remember the 40’s since I was only born in 1947. I know aTm went to the Cotton Bowl in January 1968 with a 6-4 record in the 1967 season. When I was a freshman at LSU, they went to the Cotton Bowl with a 7-3 record and beat #2 ranked and previously unbeaten Arkansas 14-7. In 1956 Tennessee went to the Gator Bowl with a 7-3 record.

I’m talking about on average. You just didn’t have fourth place teams going to bowls. There weren’t many and a lot of people were left out.

Yes, and anybody who’s been on these boards for any amount of time knows why. Do you still work with the Texas Bowl people?

Nope

My solution to there being “too many” bowl games is to not watch the ones I’m not interested in.

I already do that which comes down to all the games UH isn’t playing in.

And the schools in the bowls are obligated to buy 10,000 tickets at face value to cover the costs !!

It is like a confidence racket for the “local” communities !!

My favorite bowl, after the one UH is playing in, is one filled with Gumbo . . . . .
