When will we probably start seeing 2021 players commiting to the U of Houston in basketball?
That’s a good question. I would think soon but no telling what the plan is.
Typically happens around Aug 5th each year dating back Nate Hinton commitment. Probably will shift back due to the Coronavirus and being unable to take an offical visit.

I’ve seen him play. He’s really good. I’m not sure why he’s unranked.
He would have been ranked now if the AAU season was going on. Probably helped some he didn’t get that exposure though because you never know who would have offered.
He stood out as having good upside in playoff game vs Manor that I attended.
All I need to know about the players we recruit is that if Sampson wants them, I don’t need to know anything else or what any expert says. Which makes it simple because I don’t follow high school basketball.

I’m just curious on why they are missing in this guy. I’ve seen him play. No way he shouldn’t be ranked. Like is this COVID related? Did he have a last minute 6 inch growth spurt? Does he not go camps?
The other SF kid we were recruiting out of Plano, who just signed with Tech yesterday, went from unranked to a four star and number 72 overall almost overnight.
Just curiosity.
Right on Sasser? He was like the 350th rated prospect coming out of high school.
Edit: just looked. He was actually the 399th rated prospect.

The lack of a spring AAU season is why he is unranked. Most rising juniors get seen during the spring for evaluation and he would have gotten more offers.
Sasser wasn’t unranked though. He was a top 400 player in the us. That’s an impressive ranking. I get where you are going … but my point is he was at least ranked.
this specific year you cant look at ratings what so ever to mean anything…
most of the scouting for recruiting sites are done in aau…there is no aau this year…there are going to be alot of unknowns that would have been 4stars that wont be this year

A few things:
I think 247 may only have like the top 190 ranked this year right now. If that’s right and they went to 400 it’s very possible he’d be ranked in line with Sasser, Armoni, Antoine Davis and other good under the radar players we’ve been after in recent years.
We also have a history of getting in on guys before they get other big offers like Hinton, Mark and Davis.
Pesik and others are right that spring AAU is when under the radar guys really get noticed and can really expand their offer list.
That said, his offer list is otherwise unimpressive for a program of our caliber. I like everyone get more excited about getting commitments from players other successful programs want, but this staff has definitely earned my trust that they can spot talent that can succeed in our program where others miss it. If they think he can play that’s enough for me and I’ll be excited to have him if he ends up here.

I have seen Walker live a few times and can tell you he is definitely a top 200 maybe 150 level player. He is a late bloomer so he will get his rankings due in the next year.
