2022 Case Keenum Thread - Houston Texans back home where he belongs

Wasn’t the red rifle in his class from TCU? They both played in the Texas Bowl.

I asked Grok last week about how many current players in the NFL had been there longer than Keenum. It was just a handful or so, man 13+ career years in the NFL for a 2*? Qb with just one div 1 offer.

Case has been in the NFL so long and established so many connections, I think the NFL coaching route is where Case will end up. Case would make a great coach at UH, but there are so many other responsibilities a college coach has to worry about vs the NFL: high school recruiting, transfer recruiting, fund-raising, NIL, conference realignment. Why would Case want those headaches? Coaching in the NFL is the pinnacle of his profession. Let him succeed on the highest stage.

Case’s best opportunity to help UH, post-playing days, is to fund-raise. Heck, he does that now.

" 1. The backup QB competition isn’t ending anytime soon"

Edit:
Don’t see Case lasting on a practice squad.
Valuable as a back up/ 2nd QB coach.

If the writer thinks Case is in camp to be just a backup quarterback, I question his NFL knowledge.

Case left practice yesterday with an injury.

Yeah Case is absolutely going to be an NFL coach.

I just don’t see him going the college route.

How about Case as UH FB GM?

I think Case will be a great football coach, but being a college GM is a completely different skill set. It is about managing the revenue distribution, NIL, roster management, slotting players or positions into a salary range that is within budget for the team. All off-the-field administrative duties. Teams need to hire professionals that have a proven track record in these skills.

There’s far more money and stability in the NFL.

He can easily fast track as a QB Coach to OC in less than a decade given how many relationships he has, experience mentoring younger players, just general overall reputation.

He knows how to manage a QB room given he’s played just about every role → Starter, backup, etc.

True but they can also a be figurehead who can be the face of a program that can let a HC do more coaching and less PR.

Just spitballing.

From the article:
“Bagent finished the day going 13-for-19 with 103 yards, a touchdown, and a pick, with a passer rating of 77.3, while Keenum completed 8-of-10 passes for 80 yards, two touchdowns, and a passer rating of 139.6.”
