Spending all that money was a vanity play. They knew his resume didn’t support that contract. They paid about 400% above market to show UT they were “real guys.”

Reminds me about how my fellow Ags tried to throw money at Bo Schembechler back in 1982.
I’m a T-shirt Michigan fan (first College game I saw was UM, was my dream school, I’m from a low income, blue collar, MI family that moved to Houston, but I could never afford to go there).
As someone that has leaped out of the poor house because of school, I have a very hard time with a culture that has more money than sense.

We just don’t draw as well as some of us on here want to believe, unless we play OU, UT etc

Isn’t that true for any team that plays against OU, UT etc?
My point is for 6 million people in and around Houston, we normally don’t draw well on TV, which is ridiculous, for the most part the city really doesn’t care about UH football, it’s really sad

UH draws well on TV when we are good and the opponent is of interest.
Being 3-3 and playing Navy flunks that test.
In 2023 and beyond our opponents will be way more interesting. Up to our Coaches and players to put a winning team on the field.

NFL Network may be like ESPNU for a college game.

Hmmm . . . I thought the AAC could only show games on ESPN platforms.
I remember Coach Yeoman telling us at a Taxi Squad meeting at Sony Look’s, that the thing that saved the SWC from aTm winning the championship is that they fired their coach and will again be starting over. He said the coach, I can’t remember if he was talking about Emory Bellard or Tom Wilson, had done everything to have the aggies in position for a championship season, but the aggies were too impatient.

Must have been talking about another coach. No way Bellard or Wilson win a championship.
He was talking about SWC championship. I’m think he was referring to Tom Wilson who, after having gone 7-5, was fired at the end of the previous season. I think he thought Wilson had built the team into an SWC championship caliber team and was fired just before he could bring it in. Obviously aTm had the same thoughts as you; but not as CBY. I would listen to CBY anyday.
Bellard was fired the day after we beat A&M 33-0 in the Dome. Wilson took over and went 22-19 in 3 1/2 years. Both of them went back to the high school coaching ranks. Neither ever sniffed a SWC championship.

Slocum was their best coach. Should have kept Bear or hired Pardee.

Jackie Sherrill was crooked but IMO a really good coach for Agy.
Sherrill was successful because he didn’t give a flip about what the big donors said.
That said Slocum was down to earth and even likable.
