Yep. There are morons on every college message board, it’s nothing unique to UH.
the stats do match… we are talking about a 32% 3pt shooter, vs a 34% 3pt shooter…
both 37% in conference
selective stats are used to inflat one over the other … like true shooting %… which will punish mid range shooters
Once again it seems as though you are cherry picking stats that prove your point and disregarding those that don’t.
I don’t get bogged down with stats, so I can’t say which are meaningful and which are not.
I do feel good about adding Dunn to the team so that’s all that matters to me.
3pt% to judge 3pt shooting isnt cherry picking
ts% knowing 1 is mid rage shooter is cherry picking…
you are saying you dont know which one is meaningful, but noting that im cherry picking?
again read my earlier posts i said dunn is a great add… but there were just a bunch of post of how he will be drastically better shooter than mark, and will be shooting over defenders left and right… which i noted dunn is a similar level shooter to mark… in regards to make and misses …that some didnt want to agree with
who are you hoping for?
Jonas Aidoo
We offered him back in 2021 class
Played 35 games last yr. Averaged about 18 minutes per game
Thats my guess
Got the Pesik like!
Jonas Aidoo would be nice. I’ve heard rumors of Oliver Nkamhoua
Olivier Nkamhoua is already in the portal though
Oops didn’t realize he already entered. I probably saw it and forgot he was in
It is Julian Phillips.
Wow….kid played 24 mpg this year as a freshman….build on that and he is a first round pick next year….he was like a top 20 nationally player I think.
Interesting. Heard a new name has reached out to us. Not sure if the interest is mutual. Tyson Jackson from New Orleans University. Averaged 11.5 PPG for the Privateers. He’s a solidly built dude. Originally from Georgia and started at Middle Tennessee State. Not sure if there’s a connection to our program or if the interest is random.
He can make free throws, fr.
48% for midrange isn’t bad - for a midranges shot. But overall it’s still a bad shot and it’s still inefficient. All that matters is how you make use of the shots that you get. If you take an inefficient shot then it’s still an inefficient shot. You don’t get bonus points for being one of the better inefficient shot takers. . There’s a reason that you see so few midrange shots in the NBA now days.
Bottom line is that Mark shot below 50% TS% on his shots - that’s horrible efficiency. You don’t get a pass because nobody else could shoot great on the same shots either. That’s called bad shot selection. If a guy took all of his shots from midcourt and hit 25% would you be ok with that since 25% from midcourt is really good?
As for the “putting the ball in Dunn’s hands” comment. Let’s say the game is tied and Houston has the ball on the final possession. We can give the ball to Dunn and rely on him to score in that situation. That’s what Temple did and he came up clutch quite often. He can drive it and either score or draw a foul or he can shoot the 3. We haven’t had anyone where we could just give them the ball and say “go get a bucket” in a while. I was referring to consistently getting big buckets in the clutch. Every team is going to occasionally have somebody hit a big shot but having a guy who can consistently do it and that you can count on is big.
alot of what you are saying makes sense from a statistical stand point…
the mid range is a bad shot from most statistical perspective… teams like Alabama refuse to shoot mid ranges…
but i dont think thats fair to Tramon in that the coaches pushed him to shoot mid ranges… ive seen kellen and kelvin note they want mark to shoot a ton of midranges (ad this was before the season)… that they are aware of the perception of mid ranges but they dont care (similarly with mills when he was here)… dont be shocked if we see more from shead next year … its “bad shot selection” but its what the coaches encouraged
about the last part… dunn is insanely clutch… but i think sasser was clutch too. we had few close games to need game winners. but sasser hit like 6 ball in his hands halftime shots last season
I think Sasser was that for us or could have been at least, but he was the only guard other teams really feared so when it came to the end of the game they played ball denial defense on Sasser and were hell bent on making the ball go to someone else.
Next year with Cryer and Dunn, I think Dunn will be option 2 and have the weaker defender so he will have opportunities while the opponents will play ball deny on Cryer the most.
