2024-2025 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

First off, I love the Fritz hire. But honestly looking at the schedule and our talent turnover, etc, I thought 0-1 wins this season. Still strongly Team Fritz.

I am, too. But this is still terrible.

I will be strong Fritz at least till Season 3 and I want us to inch closer to the upper echelon in Big 12 by then and compete for championship in year 4/5 - i.e. top 3 by then and be ranked in top 25. That is the expectation.

I have always been ā€œmediumā€ Fritz still am

Given enough ā€œyearsā€ he’ll get us up and running…

Just medium becuase I know there were probably more exciting hires that would have gotten us up are running faster and created better fan support …

I was expecting around 4 wins… lots of turnover but everyone in the nation has lots of turnover… the offense is really really bad even comparative to the talent … i expected loses but how we are losing is worse than I had anticipated (except OU)

We’ve scored 1 touchdown in 3 games against the UNLV, OU and Cincy starting defenses.

The other touchdowns came against the Rice and UNLV scrubs.

Hard to win if you can’t score. Haven’t seen this level of offensive futility since Kim Helton’s first two years.

I thought this was a basketball thread.

I agree with you on this. If we going to lose we need to see some glimpses of offensive production. This is dying by watching paint dry

This is exactly where I’m at with Willie. I like the Fritz, but my first choice would’ve been Odom with Brennan Marion as the OC. I wanted the excitement back in the offense, not a pro style, smash-mouth type of offense.

I have serious doubts about how successful Fritz can be with Barbay as the OC. I know we like talent upfront, and that QB, and that will definitely make a difference with the offense, but I’m really disappointed in this STYLE of pro offense. I expected to see a lot of two TE formations in the passing game, but TEs are almost nonexistent. Same goes for the WRs. That’s one thing to be run heavy, but damn, we haven’t seen much of anything from the WR group Because the ball doesn’t get there quick enough to find them in open space.

This isn’t to say that Willie can’t make the team better given time. I believe he can and will. But I don’t think UH will ever be in contention for a playoff spot running this style of offense with Barbay as the OC. Willie was much more successful in the past, especially at Georgia Southern, running a different style offense that mixed in some veer and spread option. Those teams ran the ball successfully without a lot of talent.

I’ll say this, if Willie isn’t making major progress in three years, UA should consider going in a new direction with a younger coach that brings back some excitement on the football field. And if the OC doesn’t show his worth by next year, Willie needs to replace him, personally, I’d like to see him go after this season based on what I’ve seen so far. This has to be the worst offense I’ve seen since the Hilton/Dimel years.

@Jcoop9 should we have taken the Oregon OC?

This is painful to watch.

Even vs Rice. Our passing game was weak

At this point I have no clue man. We have been pretty frustrating for awhile now

Can we keep the football talk on the football board? I clicked on this thread hoping for some escape lol

Who would you have hired? I think Fritz was pretty close to the best hire we could have made. I will give Fritz 3-years

Guys take the factory of sadness that is the football program back to its home. It has no place in our font of joy, quit trying to pee in the basketball Cheerios.

Sorry. But if you come back tomorrow, it will probably be basketball again

That one TD only happened because of absolute blow coverage and high school team would have scored on that play.

So what’s going on over here?

Is grandpa Sampson in retirement mode like Fritz yet?

Nah. Not yet. Fritz sux lol.

Either someone merged a football thread into a basketball thread or someone posted a reply in the wrong place, but this is a BASKETBALL thread…

We’ve historical did well with OC’s from dominant teams with some ties to texas … Im sure there are some that were available

Fritz was a good hire, I dot think he was close to the best hire… there would have been more fan fare if that was the case…

Fans? I see some junior college level support but nothing close to what is expected from a P3 school.
