I also want to point out just how scary we could be next year.
We are projected to be around the #4 team, and the status quo assumes that everyone stays the same, with perhaps some improvement from Sharp. I’ve seen a lot of “everyone on Houston is who they are” except for Sharp. But consider these possibilities:
No one expects much offense from JoJo, but what if he develops his offense and starts hitting 3s?
People only expect defense and playmaking from Uzan, but what if he starts hitting shots? (There’s a lot of buzz from practice that he’s become a great shooter.)
Everyone expects the same from Cryer, but what if he takes the typical second-year jump we see from our transfers?
Outside the fanbase, no one expects anything from Mercy, often claiming freshmen don’t play at Houston (which doesn’t make sense because we do play freshmen). Mercy is actually more highly regarded than Mills & Sasser, who made significant impacts in their first year.
“J’Wan is who J’Wan is,” but imagine if he developed a 3-point shot or a mid-range game.
We’re not even counting potential senior “last year/chance” improvements from Mylik or Ramon, which are common for seniors, or possible surprises from McCarthy or McFarland.
We’re expected to be elite, but no one is anticipating any of the developments I’ve mentioned. Yet, there’s a huge possibility that many of them could happen.
Certified wing stopper. He will put our defense on another level. Historically great. Now that we have someone who can guard those 6’6 guys that kept shooting over our guards this year.
What a time to have 2 security blankets like this. At worse we have senior Wilson and Ramon as our 4th and 5th guards I’ll take that all day. Assuming Ramon is back with the guards
I didn’t mention defense and rebounding because I expect them to both be elite. We have a chance to be scary good in this area as long as we can minimize the mistakes in our rotations which I also expect to happen.
The difference between UT and UH is that there will be easily 1000+ ppl at the Champions level and in Houston it will be less then 50. That’s get NIL funded and planes etc.
Ced may never be a top bball player but I think this dude totally has a future as like an athletics model the dude looks like he could play like 19 sports credibly
