2024-2025 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

Two years in a row players listing RW as a much improved player.
Javier and Jojo pretty much expected.
I think TA was ready a year ago before the injury. We just haven’t seen the in-game breakout offensively.
Excited to hear they are impressed with Mercy.

A primary bench with JoJo, TA and Mercy is exceptional and all three with NBA aspirations.

Then to still have specialists like Walker who is Mr. Hustle and a leader for this team.
Wilson a great defender and rebounder who can play PG.
McFarland who is going to be a problem for the opposition protecting the rim on one end and rim- running the other side.
McCarty as a floor spacer and possibly our best shooter in the next season.
Lath and Jefferson bringing in the muscle at the end of games.

Mercy spot is not guaranteed as of now… he has yet to be given a red jersey while ramon and mylike have occasionally been given red jerseys

there are 2 scenerios… and 1 x-factor that will determine points for me

the top 7 are pretty much decided… 8 -10 is what i thinnk will impact ppg.

mylike ramon getting pt, means more pt for the starters…mercy and mccarthy playing and i think they take points from the starters…

and x factor is terrance … 4pt to 13pts are on the table for him as realistic scenerios… and up to 15 if we really want to get optimistic

thats a lot of PPM coming out of your team. i think you need to cut your starters points because you are resting them so much, like every 8 minutes

I agree though I do think he will be a big part of the bench. When we play Auburn early in the season I expect to see the Ws on the floor.
Where this depth is going to pay off early will be in Vegas playing 3 games in 5 days.
I think the depth the roster has will play a role in getting through that tough trip which will start with a high level emotional game.

Are we expecting TA to be ready to go at the beginning of the season or will he be added to the mix later in the year?

already fully cleared

The entire team has been cleared and practicing. I believe LJ was the last to be fully cleared and that was at least a few weeks ago.

Are the young ones going to adapt quickly? He usually builds us for the end but with this group they could all be up to speed at the git go.

If not for vets like the Ws on top of already having TA I would comfortably say Miller and McCarty would be the young bench getting big minutes from the beginning. And we would still be excited about the potential.

Some of these guys are likely only getting Elvin minutes. It’s not an indictment on them as much as just the reality of depth we have. But given my round up/down rule, even Elvin averaged 1 ppg last year. So if I assumed Elvin minutes for a particular guy, I gave that guy 1 ppg. Chase was the lone exception because I think he could get slightly more than Elvin minutes, so I gave him 2 ppg. McFarland and Mercy are the complete unknowns for me.

Part of me hates how much anticipation we have for this season. Last season I had extremely high hopes that we’re mostly predicated on Shead coming back. But man, this season with Cryer, Roberts, Francis, and Sharp all returning with Tuggler and Arcenaux growing and wildcards from Uzan and the freshman. There’s so much hype and anticipation I feel like I’m setting myself up for even more disappointment…but man, who cares?! We ride at dawn!!!

hopefully the big difference this year will be the quality depth we have

I base my excitement on that we have another really good team on the horizon. What we do at the very end of the season will be icing.

It’s an EXHIBITION!

Exactly. I’d actually rather watch a full practice than a scrimmage/exhibition.

I bet it’s very close to a real game when it plays out and you can be darn sure they will want to put a beat down on A&M
