2024-2025 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

What has really impressed me about Terrance this season is him taking guys off of the dribble. That mid range jumper is starting to work to perfection for him. And he is getting to his spot. And some of these weren’t easy shots. But he is able to create separation and shoot over the defender. And doing it at an efficient clip. He’s one of the biggest keys of this season.

We now are in the beginning of what could be a long winning streak.

Yeah, he’s one of the few guys that can get himself open for good looks, and he seems to be able to do it almost at will.

Defenses are going to have to adjust to him.

What??

Arceneaux and Tugler will both be All Conference and All Americans (1st, 2nd or 3rd team) this season. Both already showing the skills.

No clue what some of you here are expecting? Both are making incredible plays every game. Coogs haven’t even played 10 games yet. 3 losses to Quad 1 teams by total of 13 points. Non-conference games are for preparing for conference and not losing to Quad 2-4 teams or at home.

Coogs are in great shape for the season, even with losing McFarland. College basketball is a gauntlet for every team this year. Coogs certainly have the talent and coaching to be outstanding this season. Coogs don’t look all that far from being really good on offense. They are already elite on defense, and will get better.

Kick back and enjoy the season.

I agree 100%. What is the probability that he becomes a starter before the season is over?

Am I the only one that feels kinda iffy about the season so far? The losses are whatever, we are going to lose more.

I’m worried about:

-we didn’t appear to be the toughest team on the court during those big games but that we lost

  • PG is a question mark IMO
  • Wheres our leader?
  • Why is our 2 pt FG the lowest it’s been since Kelvin’s first year
  • I almost forget J’Wan is in the court at times - what’s up with him this year? He doesn’t appear to be as much of a leader as I expected and it doesn’t feel like he’s impacting winning as much

These two kind of answer each other currently. J’Wan’s rough start and our frontline not being productive in general has pushed us back into the midrange game which results in a lower percentage inside the arc vs hitting lay ups

Front court is concerning.

No offense from Roberts, Francis, Tugler, or Walker.

Frequent foul trouble from Francis and Tugler.

Rebounding looked better tonight, but not the most challenging team against which to rebound.

Lots of blocks in the paint, so that’s good.

Tugler is all motor a ton of energy but zero offensive touch around the basket

Was out of basketball for 7 months. We haven’t even reached conference play. He’ll improve.

He needs reps.

Those two threes he hit early in the year looked great. And his free throws were looking good too.

We are almost a 1/3 through the regular season. Our 3 point shooting to date is nothing short of shocking.

Season: 3pt% / 2pt% / eFG%
24/25: .437 / .462 / .526
23/24: .348 / .492 / .503
22/23: .340 / .531 / .523
21/22: .338 / .545 / .531
20/21: .354 / .495 / .510

Also of note, we are shooting a fair amount less 3 pointers this season. Has that had an impact on the %? Waiting for better looks?

YOY 3PA per game (national rank)

24/25 20.3 (298th)
23/24 22.2 (166th)
22/23 22.6 (140)
21/22 23.2 (119)
20/21 25.7 (39)

My initial reaction is we arent shooting near enough 3-pointers, especially considering how mediocre to bad we have been from 2.

Yeah, good observation. Front court has been underwhelming. I know JoJo and J’vier are still working through getting comfortable after their injuries.

J’Wan is concerning. It’s not even his play but his attitude. Seems like he’s in his head out there.

I trust in Kelvin and this team’s resiliency. I know we will get better.

It is very clear how much Jojo and Javier have improved their footwork. We just aren’t an offense that is going to drop it down to the post that often. Javier had a nice finish last night. I think Jojo is still working on controlling his in/game adrenaline.
I don’t see any reason for long term concern and still see it as a luxury having the three we do.
There have been a few games this season like SDSTU and last night when we dominated the boards the first half but don’t come out with the same ferocity the 2nd half.
What they did a great job of last night was the defense. On a night we struggled some figuring out the opponent’s defense we still built a 28 point lead against a team who played hard from beginning to end.
