2024-2025 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

Tyson was .407 for the one season he played for UH, .384 career

Don’t leave off Dotson. He was above 40% at Houston and shot .443 his senior year. I believe he takes the crown.

And none of those threes affected the outcome of any game, sadly

The weirdest part of this season for me is that it looks like the guys haven’t gelled yet, despite nearly everyone returning. Obviously Jamal was a huge loss and we can expect a big learning curve from Milos. But everyone else seems out of sync too. Maybe Sampson is right and it’s because some very important guys are still recovering from offseason injuries/surgeries. I hope that’s the case.

Think about how Golden State plays when Curry is out of the lineup.

Or go back to the Spurs when Parker was running point - take him out, and Duncan and the others would struggle to adjust.

Go further back to John Stockton with the Jazz for another example.

Shead was as important to the team as any of those guys.

Every one of the returners has only played with Shead as PG, and he was one of the best we’ve had. He also had Sampson’s offensive strategy ingrained from being in the program for so long. No matter how good the new PG is, there’s going to be an adjustment period for everyone, because the whole game is just going to flow differently and they’re not getting the same looks they’re used to.

One of the biggest frustrations I have is that Milos has fouled himself out of some important learning minutes over the first month against high-level competition. I think that has slowed the adjustment process significantly.

It isnt just Shead. We generally play 7/8 guys. From the last 6+ weeks of last season we have replaced Shead, Dunn, Wilson, with Uzan, Tugler, TA. It’s really 3/7ths of the rotation that has changed, with Shead obviously being the biggest difference.

Then throw in the injuries to Tugler/TA/Francis and it makes more sense where we are right now, which is still elite.

If you arent familiar with the abbreviations:

#1 in mid range rate, basically dead last national in post points… And moderately bad in 3pt rate… we are a advantaged analytics persons worst nightmare lol

but we are #1 nationally in actually making the 3s

I read this as we are almost all TA doing his thing and rando people doing floaters because they are scared of rim protectors

that too but to me
its a statement on how jwan hasnt been effective offensively this year…and jojo isnt there yet as a post scorer

but yes lj and milos taking a ton of floaters… lj is who he is, he’ll never be a post attacker nor do i think its wise with size… i dont think that will change… but i think milos has shown flashes that he can attack the rim…

That’s what the stats tell me too that without effective post players currently, teams are running is off the 3 line and into the mid range

Just posted this in the Troy thread. Thought it would be Jwan or Sharp

Last 5 years

When our best players shoot and are aggressive we are really good on offense. Just wait until Sampson cracks down the rotation. LJ, Sharp, and TA should be the focal points of the offense

This would be an interesting thing for someone like @monceaux to ask during a press conference. 1, CKS thoughts on our 3 point shooting, are we that much better this year or does he think we are just in a hot streak. 2. Considering our 3pt % (#1 in the nation) why arent we shooting more 3s (309th in 3PAs), and if that is a strategic decision or does it have more to do with how teams are playing us.

Then sit back and watch CKS tear into him, LOL.

he sorta already answer this is in his last presser…

mentioned the guards arent good at the getting to the post, its not them, and we play our players to their strengths… we are a good shooting team

he was just speaking on the guards, so no clue how he sees jwan for the year… nor did he speak on the rate of 3s

Jamal Crawford is 44 years old, has been out of college for 24 years, and went to the University of Michigan. If CKS is still trying to figure out how to replace Jamal Crawford on this team, I’m concerned about our future.
