These stats are nice to look at but come NCAA tournament time I want to see how efficient we are offensively against a really good defensive team as well as how good we are defensively against an elite offensive team. I like the progress since November. March? Only time will tell.

in my opinion we need more possessions per game. We have the athletes. More possessions will help our offense against elite teams and gives our defense a little bit more room for error. Not saying we should be alabama on offense but we should push the pace up just a little bit

But two moron voters didn’t even have us as a top 25 team….morons

Asked for an update on Ramon - Kelvin originally told Duarte and me it would be around the 20th. Kelvin wouldn’t commit but said he’s coming along.

Once again, he mentioned the virus that’s going through the program.

Possessions have nothing to do with it. It’s more about your success rate for each possession you get.

Being ranked near the bottom(347 out of 364) possessions per game but ranked 90th out of 364 in points per game is elite level.

Take Bama for instance, they are #1 in the nation in possessions per game at 78.5 a clip. You’re not going to hold Bama to 66 possessions, but you hope to land somewhere in the middle between 79 and 65, preferably closer to your number than theirs. I think we landed on 72 possessions in regulation against them in November and we had the game in control until foul trouble and fatigue caught up to us.

We aren’t getting blown out by opponents who push the tempo. We can definitely hang with them and beat them. We just needed more seasoning and gelling to close it out against Bama.

Why are you replying to me about more possessions? That comment was made by UHross.

@monceaux Ramon has played 8 games. Any chance he medical redshirts?

After January 20th, there’s still about 14 conference games + postseason.

That is not their intention.

Thats correct. Possesions for us means more possessions for the opposite team. Its about finding the balance. Being elite offensively and being able to lock a team down defensively

By the nature and how good our defense is, there is simply going to be less possessions in games. Ive tried to find it but never had luck, I’d think UH would have to be near the top in forced shot clock violations. Teams just don’t get off many shots vs us and the shots they do get up are late in the clock.

Bama is 6th in the nation in FGA per game at 65.4, we held them to 54 in regular time. Auburn gets up almost 62 per game, we held them to 51.

There’s a reason elite defense and ball control offense go together.

I’ve mentioned this before that by nature with our defense we will never be a true fast paced team

We can improve our pace to only to an extent
I noted the 250 to 350 (out of 360) is where we will likely always be under Sampson… our fastest paced teams around the 250 mark

That Galen, Armani, Corey year was our fast year, where Galen would set up Corey or Armoni for tons of transitions 3s (shot 5 secs into the shot clock) and that was still 256-ish in pace

We are a patient team, not a slow down team as some of the announcers want to label us.

As long as we have a defense that forces teams to use the entire clock our possession average will be low.

I would like to see us sprint the ball up the court more à la Galen

I like pace as long as we’re strategic with it. Either when we’re starting in the half court or even better when going in for the kill and putting a team away.
