We must be ahead by a margin that precludes a last second shot beating us.
In 1983 we were not.
Maybe in 2025 we will be.

We were up by one, lost by one with the dunkâŠ
Ha, no, not correct. Assuming you are referring to the 1983 title gameâŠ
We were tied at 52 and lost by two on the buzzer beating, Wittenberg airball put-back alley-oop style dunk by Charles. 54 to 52.
It is a vivid memory. I suspect the degree of trauma felt tends to burn the accurate memory into a person.
If you still have any doubt, take a look at the video a few posts up in this thread.
Every time I watch the reply I think Benny is going to make the steal, then drive the length of the court and dunk it for the win
I know! Same here. It was SO close to being all of ourâs favorite game-winning dunk.
54-52 is correct.
And,yes, Anders almost stole it which would have made it 54-52 Cougars.
But, again, if we made a few more FTâs, it would not have matteredâŠ
I wouldnât trade Phi Slama Jama for a good free throw shooting team
I looked back at the box score of that game. Always thought that freshman PG Alvin Franklin bricked a bunch of FTâs as NC State purposely fouled. But he only had 1 FT, which he did miss (front end of 1 on 1), so 0-1. But Michael Young was 0-4 and Bennie Andrrs 2-5. Hakeem was 6-7 on FTâs.
Exactly. People repeat (mistakenly on this site) that Franklin missed a bunch of free throws in that game. He did miss the front end of a 1-and-1 late that hurt. But it was certainly not solely on Franklin.
I think the Freshman blame stems largely from Vitale (leading up to the final) and Packers analyst calls (during the game) repeating that Coogs achilles heal was the freshman maybe causes that perception.
I wish we hadnât chosen to stall once got a commanding lead.
Yeah - Biggest factor was Drexler and Young going 4-15 from the field and 2-6 on FTâs.
Well, there was alsoâŠ
Also must figure in the number of times we reach the ft line as opposed to the # of times our opponent reaches the ft line. Related to the # of fouls we commit to the # of times we are fouled.
I agree with the four corner gameâŠDrexler in foul trouble and we had just made up an eight point deficit and were absolutely exhausted. Bottom line is we ran out of gas and had to play like our opponentâŠ
3 Big 12 in top 10!
No B1G Team in top 10.
The B1G does have teams at 11-14, but that doesnât seem to be a compelling case for best basketball conference.
Havenât seen our fans complaining about this bad look
Bernie still comes to the games. Nice guy
