how Dabo / Clemson bounces back after this year will be huge for their future. Do they rebuild and climb back to the top or drift away into being an average ACC team again?
If Clemson doesn’t get back to being Clemson the ACC might quickly become the worst big conference. I mean I suppose FSU or Miami could get back on track but without that the ACC is in a battle with the PAC for the basement.
I know everyone was waiting with bated breath, but Idaho State has found their guy.
(I sort of pay attention to them because I lived in Pocatello for a spell.)
Texas Tech hired Dana’s & Leach’s kryptonite, Tim DeRuyter. Those may remember Case’s debacle in Ft Worth against Air Force. Yup, Tim did that.
Tim was interim coach for the Texas Bowl after Sherman got canned. They also had a kid die in a traffic accident over Christmas to add to the sadness. The night before the game, Tim was talking with Big Daddy and I about the week. He said considering the situation, it had been a good week. I said it was like an Irish wake which he had never heard the term before. “You know, the kids are running around, the adults are drinking and joking but there’s a pall of sadness over the whole affair”. He said “that’s a perfect description of what it’s like”.
A&M won the game and in the presser after the game, one of the media guys asked Tim what the week had been like. He said, “it’s been like an Irish wake”. SOB stole my line!
Yes but that was Dana 1.0 that was a gunslinger and throttle wide open kind of guy. Dana 2.0 is ball possession and clock management guy. Totally different now…
As I said earlier, I like the hire but, to be fair, I thought Kliff and Gibbs were going to make magic in Lubbock. Sometimes coaches and situations just don’t mesh. You never know how it will work out but on paper it looks good.
FYI, Dana tried to hire Tim when he got here
I would have liked that too. I like TD as a DC.
The melt downs CDH has had on TV looked pretty bad. I noticed about halfway thru the year he started being calmer.
I imagine that occurred after he showed his arse to the fans during the Navy game.
My guess there was a discussion concerning his antics after that mess.
You will notice now when an eruption is going to happen, he heads down towards the end zone.
There was some talk of Jason Garrett.
I’m surprised Elko didnt wait for something w more upside. He played in the Ivy, he must be comfortable working around their academic requirements.
With just a modicum of success, he can have a very profitable and long term career at Duke with the opportunity to turn it into huge bucks with any big years. Good deal for both.
And, if you were ever going to go to a bottom-dweller ACC football school, wouldn’t this be the time? How many new coaches are there? Who is the dominant team? What will Clemson be like with a new OC / DC after a sub-par year for them? Strike while the iron is hot - go make your money and see what happens!
$200K salary…(a $40k raise from the last HC)
Nothing says Championship Football like Rutgers University. Good program to emulate…
Rutgers is having a great recruiting year (#22 as of now) but the B10 East is a tough road.
Just finishing above 5th on a regular basis would be a win

Idk that this hire puts Temple back on the football map, they must start investing in basketball to survive
