2024 Soccer Begins: August 15

Game today against Texas at 7:00 p.m.

I believe it’s on the SEC network, and I’m guessing on ESPN+

Aaaand we lost to the Longhorns 1-0.

Guess losing by only 1 goal away from home is a massive improvement from last season, where UT beat us at the Carl Lewis Complex 6-1

We seemed to have trouble passing effectively and maintaining possession–too many long passes that were easily picked off. Because of this, we were very limited in scoring chances.

But, as you said, some positives from the game. The score indicates that our defense is good and maybe better than last year (???) (and it was good last year, allowing about 1.5 goals per game). And Texas was a tournament team that returned its entire starting squad.

Thanks for the breakdown. I tried tuning in to watch while on the treadmill at the gym, but didn’t feel like going thru the entire process of creating an account with ESPN+.

Kinda regret it tho, as that may be the only way to watch our UH Women’s Soccer & upcoming away Football games.

It seems that way. None of the :pirate_flag: sites I use had it on.

I (may or may not have) searched there, too!

Doubt any posters from Russia or the People’s Republic of China were gonna go thru the trouble of streaming this game to the world wide web

I may cave and get it. Really want to keep up with the soccer team this year

3-1 loss to Sam Housto tonight. Not a good start to the season

Embarrassing. Not watching them anymore unless they turn things around.

LOL. Frontrunning or nothing …

0-0 tie vs SFA… still winless on the season so far…

That’s…not optimal & now I’m legitimately concerned about Big 12 play

1st Win of the Season!!!

It wasn’t pretty, but a win away from Home is always difficult.

Also, watching the game thru the ESPN+ app, it looked hot af out there!

And considering that turf only makes it hotter, I commend the team for their grit, determination, looking tough and brining home the W.

As for Coaching…the team’s defense & midfield looked solid in terms of cohesiveness & overall consistency…

but man, do we lack the offensive impact & effectiveness to create chances & score goals.

I didn’t get to watch the game, so no comments beyond.

But UH beats UTSA today 2-1.

Record is now 2-2-1.

I saw the entire 2nd half.

We looked better on offense, constantly involving the wingers to get crosses in to the box, which was giving UTSA’s defense problems (I believe thats how we got our 2nd goal).

That being said, I feel like our midfield & defense were kinda lacking. Previously I noted how they seemed cohesive, well in this game, they struggled to play from the back due to strong pressure from UTSA’s offense.

Something else that caught my attention is that our midfield & defense seem out of synch when playing transition defense (if you know basketball, you’ll understand this concept). And that put them in binds when UTSA was able to recover the ball around midfield and quickly put together a dangerous counter-attack.

Nit-picking here, but we didn’t take many shots from outside the box, and when we did, it wasn’t in stride, meaning that our players had to stop and shoot the ball, which gives defenders time to recover or make the shot harder.

Edit: I should mention that one of our best players, Maddox, got ejected with a red card since she took a swing at one of UTSA’s defenders. I want to be a homer, but after the replay, it was clear that Maddox started the scuffle and simply lost her cool when the UTSA player responded.

UTSA’s defender was ejected with a red as well.

The game became “chippy” (Coach Frías’ words) after that, but our team kept their cool & intelligently let time run to minimize the risk of a 2nd UTSA goal.

Lastly, the commentator noted how there were no water breaks during this game (not sure why), which could’ve led to some of that “chippiness” brought on by fatigue (both teams) & frustration (UTSA).

UTSA is considered a good, quality team right now that is expected to end in the upper half of the AAC. So, good, quality win for the Coogs at home.

In other news…I just tuned in & the Coogs are up 2-0 in San Angelo against Tx. St. with 15 mins to go in the 1st Half.

Coogs WIN 3-2 in a really good, entertaining soccer match.

It got a little ugly when Tx. St. scored 2 goals in a 5 minute span (iirc) to tie the game. Luckily, Juliette Moore was ON FIRE today & scored a hat-trick to push us past this well-trained Tx. St. squad.

I was surprised to see the Bobkat bleachers full of fans of all ages, and man, they were LOUD & fully engaged. Glad our girls were able to weather the momentum shift in favor of Tx.St. when they tied the game, and pull out the win.

EDIT: Juliette Moore was close to scoring a 4th Goal when she cut the ball in to her left (taking one defender) and shot outta the box, only to hit the crossbar on its way out of bounds for a goal kick. That likely would’ve sealed the win earlier, as it would’ve created a more comfortable +2 goal advantage.
