I believe he falls under the 1yr Transfer Rule, where he already came in from WVU. So if he wants to xfer out, he has to sit out an entire yr.
If he wasn’t grandfathered out of that Rule, then we’ll probably know by Monday.

This is a question. When a coach leaves or is fired, does that negate the 1 time transfer rule?
Rob Sellers said it yesterday in his live Podcast, Coog Fans will probably be surprised by some of the names that intend to transfer out on Monday, some will probably be pleased with some of the names that decide to stay.
I’m SO anxious

Good question. I’m not sure tbh, I just recall hearing this rule brought up in Rob Sellers’ podcast yesterday.
I’ll have to look it up later, but on my way out to the store hehe
I still think if majority of team stays intact that they can be 7 win team next year. But imo the Big if … need to recruit through Portal and elevate QB position. Nothing against D. Smith but i dont thk he can get them there. Is the $$ available to bring in a QB that can be responsible for 2-3 Wins on his own when all is not working.
Houston has to bring in a very talented transfer quarterback to at least compete with Donovan Smith for the starting spot next year. And by talented I’m not talking about a young inexperienced quarterback that has never started before. I’m talking about someone like Michael Pratt Tulane’s 4 year starter who has at least a 50/50 shot to win the job.
The thing that concerns me the most about Donovan is the turnovers. He threw 13 interceptions this year. It’s been a problem going all the way back to his early days at Tech when he threw 3 interceptions against us including a pick 6. Meanwhile, Tulane’s quarterback Michael Pratt was only thrown 10 total interceptions in his last two years combined and has never thrown more than 8 in a season.
Fritz’s team is always going to look to play good defense and not turn over the ball on offense. Donovan won’t be asked to do quite as much in Fritz’s offense next year but I still worry that his untimely turnovers will be an issue. It seems like sometimes Donovan never sees a defender and throws it right to him so I’m not sure how much it will help to ask him to protect the ball and not force it in there.
We’re thinking alike. ![]()
See post above yours. Ha
Dillon Gabriel leaving OU.
Didnt see that one coming.
Probably going to Mississippi State with Lebby.
Is this the real Cyber Monday?
Man, the combination of the tranfer portal and the NIL money grab leaves no program safe from top-level defections.
Lots of guys operating as 1 and 2 year rentals.
Should UH go after Dillion Gabriel via the portal?
We should have went after Urban Meyer lol, Gabriel ain’t coming here
Yes, if we have a million dollars to pay him.
He’s going to get paid handsomely wherever he goes. Probably, 5x what we can afford.
This surprises me……he was just put on scholarship correct?
Sounds correct
So this rule exists but I’m seeing players in basketball and football that are transferring a 3rd and 4th time without sitting……how are they getting around this?
Usually a mental health waiver. Or in a scenario like this with Dana being fired they are likely to be given a waiver. Which I think should be allowed if the coach is fired from a team.
Grad transfers are eligible to play immediately.
