Some kids get their growth spurt in high school, others are still growing after high school. When Briles started at UH his focus was on linemen who were tall and had long arms but not necessarily the build yet knowing they had room to still grow. Those types are overlooked by the big name programs who want someone already built.

Yeah, it sucks that Anoma didn’t even suit up to play for us, got kicked off the team by Holgorsen during pre-season, iirc.

I had heard there were good reasons.

He punched a teammate in the locker room

Yeah, I remember hearing something like that at the time.

Sorta similar to how Duke Catalon got kicked off the team back in 2018 by Major Applewhite.

Time to rewatch Tropic Thunder.

OL is by far the toughest position to project from HS to college.

  1. A significant percentage of these guys aren’t done growing, and it isn’t easy to figure out which ones are the ones who will add 2 inches in height or wingspan after HS graduation.

  2. HS strength programs are so, so different from place to place. Even in areas like suburban Texas metros where everyone has a nice weight room, the HS coaching staff may not place the same level of emphasis or accountability on their kids to push themselves to get stronger as their neighboring program does.

  3. After the first two, you run into the same issue as with every other position. Sometimes you just miss on a kid, or you figure out that he doesn’t really love football the way he told you he did during the recruiting process.

Ultimately, this is why it’s malpractice not to take volume every single year when it comes to OL recruiting. You have to get and keep guys with some degree of potential in order to find enough to field a capable OL. Especially if you aren’t Bama or UGA.

That’s why when we whiffed in the first portal opening last year, it was a bad sign. We recovered a bit in the late window but we missed on too many opportunities in the first.

We haven’t killed it but we haven’t whiffed either this go round.

Remember last year when everyone though Alabama OL Damieon George was thought to be transferring to UH, and at the last minute transferred to Florida. Nevermind he played at North Shore.

Getting Melton in the fold is a good omen.

What does the blue cap mean? I thought that meant he’s saying it’s not true. lol, I’m getting too old

It means its fake news! Lol

No where in there did it said he chose “Auburn over us”

Who cares what he is doing if he doesn’t come to U of H then why y’all worried and keep up with this crap lol

Are we recruiting this guy?

I thought we just brought in a transfer QB.

He was supposedly a target of ours prior to us picking up Chriss.

Per Nate who has some inside knowledge of things, McCloud was supposedly coming to UH but backed off. UH added Chriss shortly after. It wasn’t clear why he backed off UH at the time. Looks like he still has not landed somewhere. Interesting to see Auburn may have been in the mix.
