As best as I could tell there was no tv for today’s exhibition against Rice. Sadly I was unable to take advantage of the free admission. In a quick aside, if I read the schedule correctly, there are few Sunday afternoon games!?.

If anyone went to the game I would love to hear how the match played out.

Someone on the Rice site said Rice won in five.

#24 for Rice won the game by herself. We simply did not have an answer for her.
Nice crowd for the first game of the season. Glad to see support growing for the team.
The team will get better.

Thankfully it was an exhibition game.

Coogs win in 5, set 5 score was 15-7. However the rest of the match was extremely close.
Given that the team traveled to Omaha to play Omaha one can reasonably hope amatch of this nature will be helpful in building team cohesion.

The Coogs played Washington State today. Game was also in Omaha. Coming in WSU was listed as (RV) receiving votes.

Coogs dominated. 25-11 set 1 (they took a bit of a coffee break for set 2) - but then won sets 3 and 4 - the WSU Cougars scoring only 16 and 19 respectively. To my untutored eye the opening week's results seem quite good.

Nice start to the season. GO
COOGS!

Lots of new players on the team. Hopefully they signals cohesion.

I guess this is an issue every sport is going to face going forward.

Coogs now 3-1 on the season after splitting 2 games at home. The loss to Louisiana on Thursday was bitter, given that the Coogs seemed in control going up 2 sets to one. Coogs dominated Northwestern State in straight sets.

The schedule gets very tough from here, starting with a game this Wednesday against the Longhorns in Austin.

Coogs lost a lot of experience, talent and firepower from last year’s squad and now have a lot of new faces. I have confidence Coach Rehr will mold the team into a more cohesive unit. We’ll have to see if the new players develop up to the level of the team of recent NCAA tourney seasons. It would be awesome if Rehr could develop UH into a national power like Pitt, another urban school.

I don’t recall seeing middle blocker Kellen Morin in the match against Texas.

Kellen Morin - Volleyball - University of Houston Athletics (uhcougars.com)

And we were having blocking troubles it seems. Texas was hitting kill shots at a high percentage.

I’m wondering if she’s hurt. Anyone know? I think her return will help a lot.

ACL out for season

That really sucks for her and the team. She is our tallest and most experienced middle blocker.

Well looks like no ncaa tournament this year unless things turn around quickly

Coogs take their show to the bright lights of Broadway as they invade Manhattan. Oh wait, not the Big Apple. They opened B12 play in the little wheat stalk, Manhattan Kansas.
Still, there is no such thing as a bad conference road win as the Coogs sweep K State.
Friday the Coogs visit Lawrence to complete their sojourn into the idyllic plains of wheat country.
