2025-2026 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

Because of his.experience Pops could very well start early in the season but my money is on the youngster Flemmings taking over that spot before all is said and done

You’re absolutely right. I believe orthopedic surgeons have a saying about hip surgeries…“Third time’s a charm.”

So, Sampson brought in a hand picked transfer that won’t be able to play cause of hip surgery? If only Sampson would have checked with all the keyboard doctors first.

My money is on Walker starting till Harwell gets up to defensive speed.

No one is saying that, Pop obviously has durability issues and I’m sure the team has done their homework on how best to handle and use him as getting 100% attendance historically speaking seems unlikely.

But I mean cool oversimplification of the whole thing.

That’s what I’m hoping for with my THIRD back surgery this summer. :smirk:

Those docs are literally practicing on you.

I have good insurance so you’re probably right….new doctor for this next one. :crossed_fingers:

I don’t see Ramon getting any meaningful minutes.

This may be Sampson’s most talented roster ever. I love Ramon. Fantastic glue guy. But not sure where his minutes are coming from.

I agree!

Not talented enough to break the top 8.

Ramon’s value to the program is more culture than playing time. He is a senior, so playing him to give him experience to develop does not make sense. He can make his presence felt in practice, especially with the new players.

Assuming Los comes back:

PG: Uzan
SG: Isaacs
SF: Sharp
PF: Tugler
C : Cenac

If Los doesn’t return:

PG: Isaacs
SG: Sharp
SF: Harwell
PF: Tugler
C : Cenac

I don’t see Ramon being a starter. I currently see him as the 2nd team (3) guard, but even that’s gonna be a tough battle for him to win with Kingston, Mercy, Kordel, & McCarty all competing for bench minutes. The only edge Ramon has in that battle is experience. He’ll play, but I don’t see him getting say, Mylik-type minutes unless there’s injuries and Los doesn’t return.

Harwell is better than Pop

More talented. Don’t know if a true freshman is better than a 4th year/senior player. Especially one like Pop who was playing lights out before injuring himself in Creighton.

I find it hard for all 3 true freshman to pass with flying colors next season under CKS who expects them to be ready to contribute not just on offense but defense specifically.

Harwell is defensive minded. All I said was he was a better player. He may come off the bench but he is better than pop.

Maybe when core rotation guys are in foul trouble….he may not get regular minutes but he is going to be better than just about every other teams 10th,11th guy when needed.

More like injuries/rest if hes the 10th or 11th guy.

I still think there may be a mix with our backup 4 between Walker and McFarland and the X factor may be McCarty if they use him there.

Ramon has the realistic highest ceiling and lowest floor for minutes if milos goes pro… he’s the only potential wing who has master the defensive rotations

starter isnt out of the question and 11th man (no minutes) is also on the table…and I used the word realistic because the gap between him being a significant player and not is so tiny to me… and that is fearlessness… a fearless ramon would have been a heavy minutes player years ago imo, as the foundational skills were there years ago…(shooting/driving)

a offensively viable ramon at the 3 with his rebounding would be dominant… 2 season ago was sampson worst rebounding team… using line up analyitcs, we jumped to one of the best rebounding teams in the nation when ramon was in… the issue is there was an even bigger decrease in offense

my opinion is that ramon will never be “That guy”… last year in the bama game was when i gave up on it… milos & sharp fouled out… mercy wasnt playing well, so we put ramon in… despite desperately needing points… (lj obviously tired)… ramon didnt take 1 shot… despite tons of touches and numerous offensive rebounds… just kept passing to lj and getting out of the way, who he knew was tired… at the point, he thought he was playing in his senior year, and didn’t have a “let me try to save my team”…he just played like “he didn’t want to be the reason we lost” …
to me its like j’wan with shooting 3s, it’ll never happen here…
