I think he was smiling more in that video than after the Duke win. He loves putting those dudes through some things.

How does a news station cut their sports department? That’s crazy!

Only newscaster who would always promote UH sports consistently.

Fox has MLB, NFL, college football and basketball, and to pull the plug from a local affiliate does not make sense.

I hope Kunkel lands on his feet in Houston with a sports gig.

And not just any local affiliate. One that has 4 major sports teams, a major college sports department and others, a city that hosts major sporting events every year including a NCAA Regional Final and FIFA World Cup matches next year in 2026, not to mention other regional sports brands that have strong interest in the area. Are they just not going to report on these events with a journo in attendance? Seems like such a strange decision.

Great seeing the new guys on campus, smiling and embracing Bishop. They will not be smiling and embracing him after the summer!

The station is saying that isn’t accurate and that they are only getting rid of the sports anchor position.

She needs to follow her brother and come to UH, LOL.

I was thinking the same thing!

For the 2025-2026 Cougars, potential areas that we’ll need to address for a elite run:

1.Reliance on Freshmen:
While the incoming 2025 recruiting class is incredibly talented and highly-ranked, relying heavily on freshmen, even highly-touted ones, can be risky. College basketball, especially at the high-stakes level of the Big 12 and NCAA Tournament, is a significant jump for most newcomers. They will need to quickly adapt to the physicality, speed, and strategic demands of the collegiate game, as well as Sampson’s rigorous system. While Chris Cenac Jr., Isiah Harwell, and Kingston Flemings are expected to contribute immediately, there’s always a learning curve.

2.Loss of Veteran Leadership and Experience:
The departures of key seniors like LJ Cryer, J’Wan Roberts, Mylik Wilson, and Ja’Vier Francis represent a significant loss of experience and leadership. Roberts, in particular, was the “heart and soul” of the team, embodying Houston’s tough, gritty identity. Cryer was a reliable scorer and an extension of Sampson on the floor. While Emanuel Sharp and Joseph Tugler return with experience, and Milos Uzan’s return is crucial, the overall leadership void and the need for new players to step into those roles could be a challenge, particularly in clutch moments.

  1. Offensive Consistency (especially from the perimeter):While Houston’s offense has shown improvement, their identity remains rooted in defense and toughness. They can sometimes struggle with consistent perimeter shooting and creating easy offense, particularly against elite defensive teams. While the new recruits bring offensive talent, how well they integrate into Sampson’s often methodical offensive system and contribute to consistent scoring will be something to watch. Sampson’s teams prioritize efficient, low-turnover offense, but sometimes this can come at the cost of explosive scoring.

4.Depth in the Frontcourt (depending on development): While Joseph Tugler is a strong presence and Chris Cenac Jr. is expected to make an immediate impact, the overall depth in the frontcourt could be a minor concern. If Tugler or Cenac were to face foul trouble or injuries, the team would need other bigs to step up offensively and defensively, Kalifa Sakho’s transfer helps, but the development of other interior players will be important.

  1. Adjusting to New Roles and Big 12 Grind:
With key players graduating, some returning players will need to step into expanded roles and higher usage. How they handle this increased responsibility and the relentless grind of the Big 12 conference, especially with so many new faces, will be a test.

Overall, while the talent level is undeniably high, the success of the 2025-2026 Houston Cougars will likely hinge on how quickly our highly-touted freshmen adapt to the college game, how effectively the returning players embrace their new leadership roles, and whether the team can maintain its elite defensive identity while developing more consistent and versatile offensive threats. I have full confidence that our culture and coaching staff will have us ready for the season!
