I saw that interview too, which could completely change the dynamic of any basketball team we’ve ever seen under Sampson, if true. We’ve had shooters at the 4, but they’ve had an asterisk next to it. They’ve been good at the shooting “for a big”. We’ve never had a true lethal shooter at the four position.
We haven’t seen any official statements by the coaches of how each player will be used, but if McCarty is going to play the 4, there is almost a certainty we’ll see this lineup; Milos at the 1, Sharp at the 2, Harwell at the 3, McCarty at the 4, and Cenac at the 5. That is a lineup in which almost everyone is a projected lethal shooter.
That would comfortably be the best shooting lineup we’ve put out in the entire Samson tenure.
Before last year, we never had a shooting PG, Milos was the first. our center has always been a non shooter (Cenac changes that, when at the 5), and we’ve also never had a power forward that’s been a truly lethal shooter, just okay.
Lot of wild cards on this team. Lot of guys you could tell me you could see a leap from and I wouldn’t be surprised. Lot of that is faith in Kelvin. Gets as much as anybody out of his players, along with Painter and Few. Those 3 are in another class of development across 4-5 years with a kid.
The other lineup is going “big” with Cenac at 4 and Jojo at 5 but having very good 3 shooting but also strong rim protection… with Chase at 3 with his wingspan.
i wasnt talking purely percentages… fabian only shot the ball when open and his shooting motion wasnt that fast…
fabian, gorham and jarace were great shooter in the context of power forwards… i wouldnt consider any of them lethal’
lethal is sharp and armoni, lj etc… where you have to face guard them from half court…
sampson in a recent interview said Mccarty is a similar level shooter to LJ and Sharp …
mccarty in a recent interview said kellen told him he can be the best corner shooter in the league… and mccarty thinks that is very likely
harwell can really shoot too… he has a super quick trigger shoot… and was almost automatic in the mcdonalds all american game…i dont have a full season sample size to check the percentages, but hoping it just wasnt a 1 game thing
Hung around against a Cincy team that ended up being an 8 seed and got to the round of 32. Up 3 at half and held Cincy to just 25 points in the first half. Could never be what it is today without him coaching that way from the beginning.
The more I think about this team the more excited I get about how good I think they can be.There’s going to be a lot of fire power and potentially a great offensive rebounding team. The great Defense is still going to be great.
