Sampson has players that can play more than one position. Most of them are interchangeable with the exception of a few. He’s a magician at piecing together the talent on hand to put a successful product on the floor. We’ve seen this year in and year out where certain players are brought in that don’t exactly match the departed.
Most people questioned if anyone could replace Shead last year for example. Before that it was guys like Sasser, Fabian, Carlton, J Walker, etc. Every year people question how certain players can be replaced only to see someone else with a different skill set step up.
I don’t know who steps up this year but I have a feeling the team won’t exactly resemble last year’s team, and that’s okay. The only thing that will resemble last years team is the toughness and intensity in which they play.
Jackson is probably going to be redshirted, but since it hasn’t become official yet, I’d just want to put him in the consideration list.
Jackson is a 3 and D wing. His skill set is pretty much identical to McCarty and Harwell. Similar weaknesses too, creating the off-the-bounce. I watched a few of Jackson’s games this season. He will pull NBA Range 3s without even a second hesitation. He’s an extremely good shooter.
Good question. Milos got stronger and stronger as the season progressed. He carried the team several times down the stretch and played really well as a go-to guy in the B12 tournament against Arizona and BYU. He was outstanding against Purdue in the NCAA tournament, and ended up shooting over 40% from beyond the arc for the year.
If Flemmings turns out to be the player everyone is talking about, and has the explosiveness to drive, score, and dish, we could see lot of him playing PG with Milos and Sharp spotting up from the outside along with the other shooters mentioned above. Myla’s showed flashes of being that guy I can carry the load but it looks a lot more comfortable running the team and scoring when needed.
At this point nobody knows how good some of the young guns will be, but I’m hoping Harwell turns out to be an outstanding shooter as a 6‘6“ wing, and Flemmings shows out as an athletic guard that can shoot and get to the rack and become another player to run the offense through. If both of those turn out to be true, look out.
If Kingston improves like I think he will, I could see later in the season Milos sliding over to SG and letting Kingston play PG on some possessions. Coach has a lot of talent on the team and I think he will be playing around with different combinations during the non-conference schedule.
I agree with some pointing towards KF.
In most games we are going to see Sharp, Milos and Jojo playing big min and down the stretch. The other two spots to finish games can go in so many different directions and definitely an opportunity for KF to get into the mix.
I’m hoping we use our buy game wisely in this regard. Hammer teams as best we can and get the 2nd line and maybe the third line as much experience in there as possible.
This season we are likely to have 4 freshmen in the rotation and after that still have a new and young big to work in minutes. The blowout games are going to be fun to watch at the end with so many quality pieces.
The No Conference for Old Men guys have a series of interviews coming up with UH assistants. First up is K.C. Beard, which will drop this Thursday. Preview:
