There’s no reason to “officially” redshirt at the beginning of the season, but the plan is for him to sit out and develop this year.
We reload at HOUSTON.
Could be wrong, but I don’t think you declare a redshirt. It just happens if you don’t play in any games.
I wish they would update the rules in basketball like they did for football. In football, you can play in 4 games and still retain that year’s eligibility. It would be nice for basketball players to be able to get actual game experience in a red shirt year.
People forget how we used to lose 4 starters every year.
This. I would propose allowing a player to play in 5-6 games up to a Team’s 16th game of the season. Allows them to get in on marquee non-con match ups plus some conference games as well to get some exposure but limits teams from using them as surprise weapons when conference titles are on the line or in postseason/NCAA tournaments when there’s no film on them for other teams to scout.
So Purdue jumps back to #1 after Bama win, the real evidence should be in the Oakland coach who has played both, he said, “Perdue is good but they ain’t Houston”
Fellow Coogs, speaking of Jacob McFarland, check out today’s Cougar Confidential by JD. If you go to the mailbag part, there is a positive update from yesterday on Jacob.
When the time comes and Jacob checks into a game for the first time, I will be so happy for him first.
by all means, dont tell us what it is
thanks Hill, sorry Ehog. Still early here out west. More coffee needed.
Watched McFarland do some individual work yesterday. He was working with K.C. Beard on a one handed-jumper from near the top of the key. The shot looked fantastic.
He’s been all smiles the last 2 weeks.
when is he expected to be able to return / play?
Says possibly the next few weeks above…
That is great news! Can’t wait to see him in action.
That dude should get a standing ovation when he checks in. Just getting back on the court will be such a huge deal.
I was just thinking the same thing. I hope he gets a nice round of applause when he finally checks in. He’s waited a long time and worked his butt off for this opportunity.
Man, if he turns out to be the player Sampson hoped for, lookout. I know it will take a while since he hasn’t played basketball in such a long time, but it would be really cool if he contributes to this years team. It sure would be nice to add another 7-footer to the rotation that can rebound and shoot the ball.
Houston is shooting 30.6% on the season from 3pt range
Flemings: 50%
Cenac: 46.2%
Sharp: 37.2%
Harwell: 33.3%
Uzan: 22.6% (7 of 31)
Mercy: 28.6%
McCarty: 16.7% (3 of 18)
Currently, 30.6% as a team ranks 2nd to last in the Big12. Ahead of Cincinnati
This week, in Vegas, certainly something to watch for.
Methinks Sampson will fix this with more focused shot selection.
Both Uzan and McCarty have had quite a few wide open looks. They will start falling soon.
Not much is wrong with shot selection, sometimes they don’t drop. Overall percentages don’t matter as much as where they are later in the season.
