Why is Big 12 baseball so mediocre. We are in Arizona, Texas and Florida. Pretty good baseball states.

I don’t get it.

Are you hinting the Coogs will be ranked lol

The Coogs will be rank, not ranked.

Ha—-not the Coogs Butch.

But you will see other teams in the conference.

People need to remember that baseball is different than any other sport when it comes to rankings and who is good….

In baseball, with a good coach you can put together a great program and compete as a top 25 team in the country.

Your DBU’s, Grand Canyon’s, etc.

No Tech? Have they fallen off that much?

DBU sacrifices every other sport for baseball -

Grand Canyon is the non-religious version of Liberty

A good non religious, non private example is Southern Miss.
NCAAs every year since 2016.
Missed NCAAs just 4 times since 2003. (COVID year also)
No losing records. 3 super regionals and 1 Omaha trip.
Corky Palmer retired had Scott Berry on staff in 2010.
Scott Berry w Chris Ostander on staff for 2024.

Christian their thing. Big time.

And what?

Was there a point?

Grand Canyon is a for-profit university. A portion of all tuition goes to the ownership.

There’s a reason they stay consistent as their a d2 school in other sports - issue with Texas we claim is so loaded but the pecking order for talent is ridiculous here

Disagree.

One, Grand Canyon plays D-1 basketball.

But, I don’t really care what division their other sports are in….

You get a good coach and you can build a program….period.

Saying, well they are good in this sport because they don’t play D-1 in anything else is laughable.

I could write a dissertation right now and tell you why your assertion is incorrect….but I don’t think anyone really cares so why bother.

Since UH plays D-1 in everything we suck in baseball? And softball? And women’s basketball?

There are about 50-60 teams/universities that bust that theory every damn year.

How did UH baseball manage to get to regionals/supers and ranked in the top 25 year after for different stretches?

Divine Intervention?

And the fact that you think we are low in pecking order in Texas is because there are too many other teams proves you don’t know what you are talking about….

Consistency - no other sport will command the lion’s share of attention at DBU except baseball and it’s accepted across the department

Here? We got to get football going so we fire coaches and then hire a new coach who wants more so they get more resources

Gotta fire the basketball coach and then the new one gotta get way more resources, etc and so on

Other team sports will have moments but if you notice can’t stay consistent when it’s time to move to the next level so they get stagnant quicker than most

Everyone complains about baseball, softball and WBB but if you notice those programs have been untouched by previous regimes for whatever reasons - partly because the availability of resources to get the next person isn’t there

Same resources are fine.
Not a tear down 2 not be a joke in B12 baseball.

$325k for that stiff.
Facilities are Top 50ish.
Larger staff with pitching labs etc.

Programs with no where near UH resources do pretty well year after year.
Some who shovel snow off the field before games.
UH should at least be ahead of most non B10 and ND snow teams.

A washed up Whit with Bad New Bears type play is not fine.

There will be plenty of candidates.

Sadly it seems as simple as long time AD/ AD Dept friendships
carried alot of dead sports weight for years.

No new resources needed when you are a last place joke in B12.
Cant be worse.

Whenver the new coach comes in, he is going to get more resources. That is always how it works. UH has decent baseball facilities, but when you compare them to the rest of the Big 12, they are definitely near the bottom. It is hard to say whether or not we would be able to raise new money as the donors who give to baseball have always aligned themselves with TW. Hopefully, a new coach means some new money. I am just not sure UH has those resources. Clearly, the powers that be before the AD got fired didn’t believe they would be able to raise new money. They clearly didn’t want to give it a try, which was inexcusable. That was his job, but he was a joke!

I am not sure I understand why DBU has some sort of an advantage because they don’t have any other D1 sports? Yes, they do throw most of their resources towards baseball, but they don’t have great resources to begin with. Their conference, which doesn’t have D1 football, does not pay well at all. Now, could they compete in the Big 12? They would probably be a middle of the road player right now, but I don’t think they would be able to keep it up year after year.

Speaking of DBU’s baseball facilities. They’re top notch.

It is an ok facility. It would not be in the top tier of the Big 12. It is really nice for the level that they play in, though.

So, what do you think is the nicest baseball facility in the Big 12? Because, other than a new grand stand, I think we just about have everything that everyone else has. I remember Craig Way comparing our field to Kansas State’s field.
