There’s a big difference between “I can see myself retiring here” and “I am retiring here.” In the words of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Boxer, “All I suggest is that a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.”
I believe Fritz is happy here and will stay. If I am wrong, so what, he has already set us up for continued success.
What he actually said was “we’re going to finish out our careers here at Tulane,” which I think is much closer to the second of your examples than the first.
GIVE US ALL A BREAK!!! Everyone who’s a good HC is turning their back to Penn State. When you fire a great coach with a great record who just had a bad couple of games, thats the kind of reaction you get…They might as well zero in on some G5 up and comers…and Franklin? He already got Leavitt, the great Arizona St. QB to transfer down to Virginia Tech and play QB for him…Franklin will be just fine!

He not only left on excellent terms he built Tulane a football coaching foundation that was paramount to their success since HCWF left. In addition to that, Tulane will be smart to keep the same coaching foundation/principles that Mr. Fritz gave them. How many programs have gone back to mediocre at best because they did not understand the thinking/plan that made them successful in the first place?

These are the same outkick guys that CATER to the sec and big10. I frankly could care less what they think.
No matter what there will always be “bad” feelings when someone leaves for a new program.
Where was the National outcry when twitchyjudasherman lied and bolted for uta?
If Tulane had stayed in the sec decades ago we would not have these hard feelings.
Interesting how coaches are turning down the Penn State job. Must be way too much work at this point or something about the administration they don’t like. I’m sure the money is there.
Franklin is going to build a monster at VA Tech, just watch. That seems like a good middle ground for coaching gigs. And he doesn’t have Ohio State or Michigan to worry about
From what I can tell it’s mostly the fact that their AD, Pat Kraft, is trying to do the search himself, and he’s got the double-whammy of both being fairly incompetent and a giant turd that nobody wants to work with.
I said this upthread, but after this, I’ll never question the decision to hire a search firm again.
FootballScoop doesn’t usually play those games. If they say there has been no contact between Fritz and PSU, then that’s what their source is telling them, and what’s true to the best of their knowledge. If they believed him to be a target, they’d say as much.
That’s not to say that they haven’t bitten on a bad lead before, but from what I’ve seen they’re pretty reliable.
Hasn’t anybody thought for a minute it maybe other’s like our conference foes putting out these rumors to distract our school, who don’t want us to dominate.
Yeah. Don’t think Willie would talk with them, after all he has moved Dude to CoogFans and probably doesn’t want to spend the time moving him again to PedFans…
Distract us from what? Bowl prep? We’re past signing day and the regular season is over.
This is mostly just writers throwing names out there. If anything, I’d think this more likely to be Willie’s agent seeing if he can leverage PSU rumors into a fat raise like seemingly every other coach in the country.
I’ve been following their board since the whole Sitake drama and they seem to think the names to watch ant this point are Matt Campbell (lol), Manny Diaz, and Brian Daboll (lol). Willie Fritz has come up like once and the crowd went mild. Personally, my money’s on either Daboll or just making Terry Smith permanent and letting him be their David Culley.
Sure, but basically our entire class is signed at this point, and that’s true of almost everyone else in FBS, too. Not a lot of point in setting up what would be a pretty elaborate smokescreen to create FUD unless they’re playing the really long game on TP guys or c/o ‘27.
