Athletic kid that plays with great urgency at 6’3.
7 rebounds vs the Cyclones in only 19 mins. Even tho he only scored 5 points, I remember him standing out to me in that game as a player.
I think he’ll bring a similar skill set and impact as Ramon Walker for you guys. (But better)
He shot 50% from the field and 40% from deep two years ago, so there was reason to expect a big jump offensively last season. Unfortunately, the opposite happened and his shooting numbers fell off a cliff.
Bit of a reclamation project, honestly. But he’s gonna bring the things to the table to compete and hang in your system with your culture, and I suspect he’s the kind of guy that makes a coach want to give him opportunities because of that. @IowaCoog
Great opportunity for both sides to see if they can get him back on track.

I put a lot of that on the coaching change and role shift.
I can’t really comp him to Walker because he’s a comparative lightweight, and Ramon was used more as a forward. Plus, Ramon was pretty solid with the ball, and Weaver really isn’t.
I think the year 1 Mylik comp is probably pretty good. They’re about the same size, great athletes, and they both choose violence when they hit the floor. Just don’t expect to run offense through or get much shooting from them.
Now if he progresses into year 2 Mylik, look out.

He’s got a decent shot around the basket but no range. With meaningful minutes he can get you 4-6 points a game in addition to shut down D, tough rebounding, and on the floor hustle. He’s a net++ for us.

That’s the definition of “no shooting.” 
I’m not bagging on the dude - he’s a great addition. I was just comparing what I think his offense will look like to what Mylik’s looked like in his first year. If he’s better than that and can knock down some 3s, he’ll be better than a “great” addition.

Maybe im too critical. But if Kingston didn’t ball out as a true freshman, we’re a 4-seed/5-seed type team last yr
No low post scorer & no drivers/slashers? Thats not a good combination for a successful team. So all in all, great season for a limited roster. Limited in terms of National Championship contender.

Alot of talented pieces, but they just didnt fit at times. That happens.
We had 1 guy who could penetrate & make a play for others, Kingston. Eventually some team would find a way to stop him. Illinois had Kylan Boswell & a good game plan

Last season we had 5 NBA guys and lost in The Sweet 16.
Those 5 guys won exactly 2 March Madness games. So must not be a formula that works for Sampson.
Next season’s roster looks like a 2025 Sampson roster. That roster missed a National Title by 3 points. By the shot that Eman could not launch.

Illinois was a bad matchup for us. Give us a different S16 team, we win, then beat the brakes off Iowa and are in the FF.

I watched Iowa. Not at all sure we would have beaten them. These 5 guys also lost 3 straight Big 12 games. No other Sampson team did that.
And how is a Team a “bad matchup” when you have 5 NBA guys?

We have take out NBA lottery picks with how we play.
The short answer is they were big, experienced and physical.
Gotta disagree. UH had everything in their favor. Playing in Houston. NCAA Tournament pedigree. The favorite to win the game. UH played poorly. Had UH played that way against Nebraska or Iowa, the other teams in the Midwest Region, they likely would have lost. A bad game in the NCAA will get you beat. Especially, the deeper you go.

Just because a player is an NBA guy doesn’t mean better at CBB. Would you rather have Rob Gray or pick a random guy who had a cup of coffee in the NBA. Illinois was huge and old. I think most of us who were being honest at the time, figured the game was 50/50.

Ok we had some guys go to the NBA but a lot of it is based off potential. It definitely had nothing to do with how they looked vs Illinois. The youth definitely was a factor.
We shot 2 free throws. They shot over 20. No one to attack the paint. Jojo played 25 minutes. Cenac 27. They both should have been around 32 or more minutes. So yeah. Of course they will look at lot bigger when our biggest 2 players/starters are not out there.
Dedan can definitely be more productive than Kingston next year. I have heard 3 interviews pointing out he was a true PG and floor general. So obviously that was missing. Kingston is still a GREAT talent. But still areas to improve on.
And i seriously doubt we look as soft in the paint, like last year. I would not be surprised if both the PG and PF production is improved. May not have the raw talent, but these vets should offer more consistency. May not see any huge game like Flemning v BYU. But we may not see a dud like Illinois either.
