2026-27 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

We have enough guards to full court press now…

It is significant when you consider the cultural fit at Houston and what Weaver is really good at. Extremely high motor and relentless defender.

But keep box score watching. He is also going to be our best rebounding guard. Rebounding, defense, hustle. Best three areas of his game. And those three areas are of utmost importance to our head coach.

Significant in a way that he makes us title contenders? Or just that he fits our culture? does that mean one of the other transfers (maybe hadnot?) isn’t panning out like the staff would have liked??

I’ve seen Weaver play at UT plenty times. VERY limited offensively… and y’all were dogging Harwell all last year for his lack of offense… only difference here is that weaver is a vet with less upside

He is simply a hustle guy off the bench, but a guy who adds intensity and should be a great role model for the rest of the guys. I don’t see him as a crucial piece, but unforeseen injuries could change that quickly…glad to have him aboard

Weaver is exactly what you would want in a player for Houston. Great defending, loads of experience, toughest guy on the court type of mentality, huge vertical with demonstrated great rebounding ability, and someone that can finish at the rim leading to buckets or rebounding chances for our bigs.

He’s definitely a crucial piece because he is a perfect compliment to our smaller/offensive minded guards like Dedan Thomas or Corey Hadnot. If we are getting beat up on the boards or aren’t getting enough stops or just need to turn up the intensity then having a guy like Weaver that you can turn to off the bench is huge, IMO

Coach certainly liked him and thinks he fits…'nuff said…

Wrong!

This is huge regardless of numbers or PT.

With all these 2022 players getting an extra yr.
UH had to add a guy, to keep up

He seems like a Mylik Wilson spark plug off the bench. 5th yr player that can bring consistency that a Kordel, Bryce, Alozie may not

Also, can be that on-ball defender that takes pressure off Dedan & Mercy defensively

Just repeating my comment from the other thread

Always said those UT teams didn’t deserve a player like him. He fits our culture to a T.

Excellent rebounder and defender solid ball handler. Not a great shooter but can make some. He came alive during the tournament to help them advance.

A little bit of Mylik Wilson and Brian Latham type

One of the big things missing last year was consistent veteran leadership. This guy is the kind of player who can step in and bring that without needing a season to learn how it works here - he’s got it.

Now that I think about it… we have the potential of having a nasty defensive line up with the likes up Weaver, McCarty, and Jojo

Good thing he won’t be asked to stand in the corner and shoot 3’s

Let’s read into it - Any thoughts on bringing him in? Insurance policy for mercy/Hadnot’s game not translating for extended minutes/step up in comp?

I have no inside knowledge. AND, it could be more to it than this regarding Weaver.

But my thought is … that in the very least - Weaver is a great piece to add for practice reasons (outside of the games). There seems to be good value there. Numbers, energy, toughness, team-player, etc…

Again, it may be more that just the practice piece value, but I like the pickup for that reason alone.

Don’t forget taze Moore level of athleticism.

I think this is the basic question…

Does adding Chendall make us a better team?

And the obvious answer is yes.

He’s proven that he can play, and contribute to winning, at the highest level and poof, he just became eligible overnight, why not add him to your team…?

It is possible that he’ll lose eligibility in the next round of court fights. The NCAA is fighting the injunction and has a couple of avenues for appeal. They’re arguing that because of the new roster limits, players coming back under this injunction will harm incoming players who will lose their roster spots at a point where it may be too late to transfer.
