2026-27 Houston Cougars Basketball Season

Neither did Flemings…

Take Flemings off of last year’s team… where do we finish in the B12?

still pretty good…
uzan plays pg (plays better)
sharp takes more offensive reponsibility

we had benchs that didnt get developmental minutes- mercy mccarty and harwelll…

there was like a 12 game stretch where mercy was shooting 80% fg but getting 4 minutes a game

i dont think the wheels fall off without flemings… the team would have just looked different, in how it won games…

Again, You have not seen them in practice. I think it is foolish and short-sided to base anything on how they were used at their previous schools, game film or stat sheets. More time than not that is how you base your opinions…but carry on…you will anyway.

BTW what position or roll JoJo plays on the offensive end is very different how he will be used defensively.

Huh? I watched a ton of East lmao and a few games of DG. I don’t know what you’re talking about Pesik.

I’ve heard some things about practice. I specifically asked about the bigs. I believe we’re in good shape next year

Sorry Kyle, but as shocking as it is I agree with pesik on this one. Remember Milos was the starting PG on a Final 4 team. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE Kingston but we would have been good just different

your last point was the big point i made…

jojo as 4 on offense makes sense, make him a point forward… every other big on roster has better toucch around the rim than jojo… so it makes sense on offense

the point i was making on was about defense… jojo will probably be the best low post defender in the nation next year… post defense is the most vital part of our defense …
if we have jojo as a defensive 4, as an opposing team, id put a stretch 4 in the corner, and just take jojo out of the game, and scoring on houston just became vastly easier …

all i noted was that the logistic of it just didn’t make sense to me on defense

We won’t have JoJo as a defensive 4.

That’s sort of the point and where this whole discussion started. Take KF off the team, and it really validates this post

This thread is about the coming season; the comparisons have been made well enough by all. We’ll see what happens, but this team will have fewer “holes” and fewer 10-minute scoring droughts than last year’s team. The jury is out, but the defense cannot be worse than last year’s overall defense.

Or a worse rebounding team. Last year was the worst rebounding team Sampson has had here

That too, I was talking about defensive rebounding, but the offensive rebounds that we got beat on seemed, from this viewer, that they lacked the rebounding instinct and the spring in their step that we had seen in the past.

100% but Shead was on the verge of being the best on-ball defenders in the country. We could have the same conversation about anyone.
My last post was regarding Pesik who just can’t help from taking the conversation to the level of ridiculous.

Want to see something hilarious… look at kenpom’s adjD for the past 10 seasons…

Look at 21-22 compared to last season…

Apparently, last year’s team wasn’t the sieve some are making them out to be…

When you’re talking about 10-minute scoring droughts, it was a sieve. Scoring droughts aren’t all on the offense.

Actually, with your KenPom, it showed it was the “worst” in 4 years. Not horrible, but not as good (nationally)

I updated sieve, too…

Ask some on here and they’ll put that on CKS as that’s been a constant theme for our offenses under him… scoring droughts.

CKS would say sometimes you make shots and sometimes you miss…

Back to the topic of next year’s team being a"Kelvin Sampson prototypical team"…

I think that’s spot on except we’ll have something we’ve never had before in Diane.

I don’t mind you disagreeing because you’re not being condescending and disrespectful in your remarks unlike Pesik…

I disagree that the team would’ve just looked “different”… they wouldn’t have been close to a 2 seed without Flemdawg imo.

They would’ve still had all of the flaws but wouldn’t have had the 12 20+ point games Kingston had including a 42 point game.

In my opinion we would’ve been like a 6 seed without him.
