Weaver is our 6th or 7th man. Who said he isn’t playing? I expect him to get 18-20 minutes per game. And be a huge contributor to our success.

Actually, that’s a great point, no more stashing on the bench to redshirt…
But I still don’t think it will matter much because CKS tightens up to an 8/9 man rotation every year so those guys aren’t going to play after December anyway except possibly in mop up… but he leaves his starters in until just a few minutes left even with substantial leads and I don’t blame him; we’ve all seen 20 point leads slip away quickly in college hoops.

I think most people think KJ is losing the most minutes due to the Weaver addition.
I didn’t think he was playing. Even without Weaver. Weaver is taking Alozie’s minutes.

Fun to compare this upcoming team to our national title runner up team.
PG: Dedan Thomas vs Milos Uzan - edge to Dedan? I think Dedan is a better player, but has never been part of a winning culture. Looking forward to see how he grows this offseason.
SG: Cryer vs Miller - clear edge to Cryer going in. Mercy with more raw talent. He needs to take a Marcus Sasser jump this offseason.
G: McCarty vs Sharp - edge has to be to Eman. But another scenario where McCarty may have a higher ceiling. How will he develop this offseason?
F: Sr Tugler vs Sophomore Tugler - I would hope there is a clear edge for senior Tugler here.
F: Gillespie vs Roberts - I think this one will end up being a draw.
Bench
Hadnot, Weaver, Diane vs TA, Mylik, Francis - I think Mylik and Weaver will end up a wash. I envision the same role. Hadnot will provide us more offensively than TA, which we will need. Clear edge to Hadnot. Diane vs Francis, I think I will give the edge to Ja’Vier. But I essentially see the bench as a wash. And the bench will be a strength of ours.
After doing this analysis. It’s clear that if we are going to compete for a natty that it will hinge on Mercy and Chase’s development this offseason. Most important offseason of both of the young fellas’ lives.

I’m jumping in this late but Sheas had a 33.3 assist rate his soph year, Flemings had a 32.6… their literally neck & neck, and both top 50 in the country.
I’m taking Flemings all day over any Houston guard from any year in the Sampson era.
He carried Houston for stretches.
And he finished 4th in kenpom player of the year race as a frickin freshman.
He’s gonna cook in the NBA too

yes, becuase his team won… why do i have to write every asterisk for everything 
offense gets awards… so do the best player on the best team if there is no notable scorer…
jojo has a chance at all american next year… but we have to finish the season top 5… then his 8/9 points will be overlooked…

The original point was Kingston was a better player last year than Shead was as a sophomore. Pesik has turned that into some weird debate about defense. As a player, not just one aspect Kingston was clearly better than soph jamal.

Jamal Shead was a consensus first team all American because he was the best point guard, and probably the best player, in the country. Regardless of his point total. He didn’t get it because he was “the best player on the best team when there was a non scorer”.
Just like Kingston Flemings was better as a freshman than Jamal was a sophomore.
But you keep putting your asterisks in there, Pesik.

no my point was defense was far better, play making was better, toughness was far better, leadership was better …
i noted rebounding required a nuanced looked but i think shead was a better rebounder too – (we let kingston get uncontested defensive rebounds to push the fastbreak faster, quicker if the pg gets the board-- jamal was a better offensive rebounder)

there are outliers like jamal senior year – on best player on the best team… but offense gets awards
