I dont think Galen was ever 1st or 2nd team all AAC. Thus he’s lower on people’s list. But, weve had alot of great players come thru UH

To be clear, I’m not saying Kingston was picked on because he wasn’t. Milo’s wasn’t shutting anything down either … neither was cenac against toppin
Ironically enough, the Texas Tech game is the reason why I think shead is a better overall player.
We traditionally have PGs defending PGs… we had sharp (a sg) defend Anderson (their pg) and sharp actually did a decent job …we take out their best scoring guard … just to have their next 2 combine for almost 40 on us
but yet people are debating the defenses are somewhat similar … smh
To @Joprior23 point… I don’t think shead scores 42 vs tech (agreed) … I disagree that we’d need him to. { they did give Kingston pure isos vs Anderson … Shead would have scored some on that too (16-18-ish)} … tech doesn’t touch 90 with shead in that game … another guard gets shut down… and an underrated point- the inbound pass to toppin becomes way harder …
That 21’ team’s defense was ten times better and that team was more experienced and tougher. Also, that team didn’t choose what conference that they played in. Just because they were in the AAC, t doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have done the same in the Big 12 (as UH proved in ‘23 and ‘24).
Kenpom says those defenses were basically the same but I guess we’ll just ignore kenpom when it doesn’t support our arguments…

Man, what really stands out to me is how good he is keeping his dribble and probing. exploiting numbers. He’s so patient and daring ppl to come to him. He’s really good in that middle 3rd we talked about.
Seems like everything runs thru him unless he sees an easy early matchup.
Really any time you bring 2 to the ball he’s gonna get it out on time on target. And he’s not gonna force it he’s gonna make you commit.
Reminds me a bit of Monte Morris. In that when he scores the ball, even tho he’s plenty capable, it’s so often barely contested because it’s just the right play by that point and he’s explored every other timely option, or he attacks and ppl are kinda sitting on the dish.
He’s never sped up, but never late either. Truly a PG’s PG.
This guy is gonna lead you in minutes for sure IMO. You can’t take guys like that off the court without hurting team offense.
Come on man. No matter what the rankings or stats say, anyone who have followed the program knows our defense was very average according to our standards. Foul trouble was a huge issue in our losses. The other team getting in the bonus early, free throw difference, rebounding. Huge issues. Those issues also hurt the offense because players had to sit. Foul problems also effect aggression.
We cant go back and say our guys were good defenders because look…they are in the NBA.
Refs yall got it wrong. Those fouls were called. Some were whack, but our defense was not close. Uzan, Sharp and Tugler didnt all of a sudden forget our defense and rotations either.
To sacrifice our identity to pick offensive players, then those players would need to be damn near unstoppable scorers so we could outscore teams. While we had our moments vs weaker teams, we were exposed several times vs good comp
There’s a reason statistics are used to define good or bad… it’s because the “eye test” doesn’t always tell the truth.
Once again we were one of the top defenses in the country last year and it’s not just because we beat down weak teams… we play in the B12… every year is a tough schedule unlike when we were in the AAC.
So… you guys can sit there and say that the team didn’t pass the eye test or whatever other subjective reasons that you have…
But, once again, we were one of the best defenses in the country statistically… AGAIN!
I can use an anecdotal example as well… BYU averaged 83.5 ppg but we held them to 66 points at their arena…
Based on impact - this should be the order -

My goodness we played really good defense.
It may not have been scary good like we have had with an elite ball stopper but it was good.
Kenpom, schmempom…lol That team was more polished defensively. Last year’s team never really put it all together.
