What I found funny was that coach ignored him for a few minutes. He stayed in.
I was searching my memory banks and I don’t recall us having players asking to be subbed out. Especially not in the first half of the first game! ![]()
But I liked what I saw from Diane on offense. He’s got the touch around the basket that Jojo is missing.
Bwajajaja…

It’s not that uncommon and also for coach to leave them on the floor a few extra minutes.
Yep it is going to be awhile to get him into playing shape, but hey he has already dropped 31 or so pounds, so there is the start.
He is a very gifted and smart player and yes I think he is going to play more and more as the season goes along.
Very doubtful he starts this year but I certainly think he can get to the point where he helps this team win some big games.
Sampson has his job cut out for him this year, but he has some real nice pieces of puzzle to put together a really good team…
The future is bright for Diane. He has a lot to learn but he has skills and height. Sampson has a lot to work with. Diane will look good against teams he matches up well against, like Montana Tech. The major question mark will be against elite competition. I’m guessing he will have his ups and downs, like all true freshman.
What Diane can do against Montana Tech is irrelevant when UH plays in March.
FWIW
Ara D goes that high.
UH had a very good season.
Big12 at 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 11th. 14th,
Guess from predictive won totals.
Nets should be awful. It will be high.
I hope we get more than one year out of Diane. He can be a dominant college player. Just not sure if can be this year.
Same with Cenac. Cenac was good and would have been great with one or two more seasons.
With Diane’s lack of foot speed, he’s probably unplayable in the NBA.
You base this on one exhibition game as a true freshman?
Poor post.
U think Hakeem looked like a NBA player when he played his first game at U of H? What a stupid comment, that guy is going to be a beast
Olajuwon was an athletic freak. Nothing about him precluded him from being an NBA player.
Guys with bad foot speed simply can’t play in today’s NBA. Teams will hunt you, force switches and make you unplayable.
Can you name one slow lumbering big who was drafted into the NBA in the last 5 years? Compared to Diane, Eady is a sprinter.
There’s plenty of video on him. He also played televised post season all star games.
Are you under the impression that he isn’t very slow?
All you have to do is to watch him play and it’s pretty obvious that he’s slow. Can you show me anything that says otherwise?
He can get away with a lack of foot speed in college. In the NBA, there wouldn’t be anyone for him to guard. They would literally go at him on every possession.
OKC literally just drafted a 7 footer with “slow foot speed” to counter Wemby with size. There will most definitely be a place for Diane in the league
Yeah, most teams have at least one guy like that on the roster.
Sweet… didn’t realize the Rockets have the 2nd pick next year!

Here’s the pre-draft profile from NBA.com on Mara. They talk about his “quick feet” separating him from the other bigs. He’s very mobile, not sure where you got slow footed. He’s a gazelle compared to Diane.
here’s other mentions:

If you think that Diane has anything close to Mara’s foot speed, you are mistaken.
Watch the link of Mara’s cone drill and tell me that you honestly think that Diane is anywhere close to this.
It doesn’t mean that Diane can’t be a great college player, but his physical limitations will probably prevent him from being an NBA guy. It’s kind of like Marquis Nowell - he was a great college player but he had zero chance of getting drafted into the NBA due to physical limiations.
I posted somewhere that shows we have the Suns pick and the SWAP with Brooklyn that could be or will likely be top 5.
Found it.
Pre draft analysis is great but im going off what I saw in summer league and his final preseason game vs the Rockets. He showed issues switching, guarding the perimeter and had trouble with quick wings. He couldn’t stay in front of Alpi
Does this mean hes not an NBA player? heck no, he could’ve had a bad summer or will take time to adjust to the speed of the game.
Point being, dont be trigger happy with dismissing an 18 year old freshman after an exhibition game.
