2026 Big 12 conference

@BYUcougarfan

I know both of you remember how bad Rocco was in our game in Ames. The redzone interception to no one? except literally your guy lol.

He threw two pick 6s in the same game against UCF… at home. It was a big game and a close game too.

Just wait til that happens in Happy Valley during a whiteout and we’ll see how long this honeymoon lasts.

Connelly put out his rankings of p4 QBs.

Big 12 top 5:

Mestemaker (OSU) 7

Sorsby (ttu) 9

Dampier (UoU) 12

Bachmeier (BYU) 15 @MountainCoug

Avery Johnson (K state) 21

Other big 12 schools that I found interesting or have people here:

Fifita (Arizona) 27

Weigman 36

Raynor (ISU) 51 @RezClone @zrf

Weigman being in the bottom half surprises me.

There are several QBs in the big 12 below Dampier I would take ahead of him.

I like the low expectations.

Connor Wiegman is gonna make a lot of pundits look stupid…

This was my first reaction too. To them? Keep it coming.

Yeah, no freaking way he is that low….Dave Campbell put out a list of QB’s in Texas and CW was ahead of Marcel Reed.

National media is clueless.

Behind Rocco? :joy:

Who would you want as your qb?

  • 65.2% completion, 2705 passing yards, 25 td, 9 int, 700 rushing yards, 11 td (10 wins)
  • 64.9% completion, 3033 passings yards, 15 td, 7 int, 527 rushing yards, 11 td (11 wins)
  • 63.5% completion, 2490 passing yards, 24 td, 5 int, 835 rushing yards, 10 tds (11 wins)
  • 61.7% completion, 2800 passing yards, 27 td, 5 int, 580 rushing yards, 9 tds (7 wins)

Players with their completion percentage by their name so you can see which is which.

Weigman 65.2%, Bachmeier 64.9%, Dampier 63.5%, Sorsby 61.7%

I should have added Fifita to this and I didn’t. Here are his numbers

64.3% completion, 3228 passing yards, 29 td, 6 int, 216 rushing yards, 3 td (9 wins)

Interesting, most pundits are saying our schedule is not very favorable with visits to TxTech, Colorado, Utah & West Virginia.

We also visit Kansas State, but idk what they’re gonna look like next year.

This is how I see it…the two missing games are non con g5 games. The green Ps are probable wins. I’ll do a write up for why I feel this way in a minute

Sensible prediction; I can’t argue.

But as a Coog, I have this Coog PTSD where we tend to overlook/underperform in games we’re supposed to win (ex. K-State, Colorado, WVU).

Oregon State — W
Houston is bigger, stronger, faster, more talented, better qb, better defense.

Southern — W

@ Texas Tech — probably a loss. I think Houston has a better QB. But that might be the only position they are better at. The real hope is that because Houston has continuity they can pull off the W. Sorsby, IMO, is like the 6th or 7th best qb. I know that’s controversial.

@georgia southern — W 3-1

UCF — W. They are bringing in Barnett from JMU hoping he fixes their problems. I don’t think he will. IMO, coaches second stints at the same school rarely work. UCF hasn’t manger the big 12 jump very well. Even if Barnett ends up being good the Houston defense will be too much for him learning the new offense.

@K state — W new head coach, lost their RB to Kansas, Avery Johnson struggles with elite defenses, which Fritz generally has.

Oklahoma State — PW (probable win) new head coach, built in the transfer portal (mostly north Texas) and I don’t think either of those things work generally for a first year until you prove me otherwise. Mestamaker was really good at the g5 level. I think he struggles with a week in week out grind. I do think they are the most likely team to make a major jump.

Utah — I have yet to see a good argument as to why they will be good other than reputation alone. They don’t have a single starting linemen returning on either side of the ball. TThey do return a good to great QB and RB duo. They lost most of their offensive staff and they lost their head coach and have a new defensive coordinator. Houston has never lost to Utah. I think Houston gets the W.

Cincy — W I think they will be a mess.

Colorado — W I think they will be a mess

@wvu — W — in year two of their rebuild I think they will be better, but I think they are a year or two out. I expect them to be 8-4 ish.

@baylor — idk man. Lagway is pretty good. But Aranda. Should be a W.

Assuming health I’d be dissatisfied with less than 10-2

My WTE top 6 in the big 12

  1. Texas Tech — so much talent, still lack a qb
  2. BYU — return HC, OC, QB, RB. Will have a weak receiver group. Retooled offensive line. Defense lost Jack Kelly and Tanner wall, but everyone else is back. All ACC linebacker Uluave to replace Kelly
  3. Houston — y’all know Houston
  4. Arizona — I am high on Az. Sr qb coming back with HC and OC.
  5. ASU — I trust Dilly and he’s brought in some good talent.
  6. Utah or OSU

Avoiding 4 of the top 5 is huge.

Good, concise breakdown.

For TxTech - I do believe Sorsby is an upgrade from Morton; he can throw, run & improvise, something Morton couldn’t do. On the bright side - no more Jacob Rodriguez.

Interesting point on Mestemaker. Now I’m curious to see how he’s able to take P4 beatings, especially in conference play every week.

And I’d forgotten about Utah’s situation starting over with a new HC. Now I’m starting to think a win there might be more attainable than previously thought, but playing in their home environment will likely still be difficult.

Colorado is a joke with terrible coaching.

West Virginia are gonna get payback….no way Willie loses to them this year.

How can anyone predict anything this early when we don’t even know who will be on the various teams until all of the transfers in and out are settled in the summer?

There is only the one portal that already took place. There’s not another portal window

No, there isn’t; but kids can now transfer at will without actually entering the portal.
