2026 Big 12 conference

UH is in a great position to shine. It will be fun to watch Texas and A&M squirm when you do. They tried to keep UH out of the party for good reason - they didn’t want to see the beast awake again!

I love the atmosphere at Hilton Coliseum and Iowa St. fans travel, especially to the B12 Basketball Tournament.

Especially because you can’t even fly commercial to Ames if you wanted to.

Des Moines is right down the street, though… right?

The metro, yes. Downtown Des Moines, sort of (35-40 mins)

The airport… not so much. It’s about an hour.

It’s an hour from my house in the Boonies to Ames, just in the complete opposite direction

But, yeah…Overall as far as Big 12 college towns go, you could do much worse location-wise, actually. It’s still out there tho.

In Houston you are about an hour from Houston.

Haha nice . Sorry, 42 miles*

We generally measure distance in time because there’s no such thing as traffic…

It’s generally easier than saying X miles because everything is far away anyways. Different worlds :earth_americas:

We do the same in Houston because there’s no such thing as no traffic. Miles are meaningless.

What are speed limits like in Iowa? Utah is 80

You westerners!

South Dakota is 80 as well. Another great divide, even Nebraska is 75.

Every other bordering state and eastward is 70 on interstates. Illinois was only 65 until relatively recently.

In Iowa specifically, it’s 70 on interstates, 65 on major FOUR-LANE divided highways, and 55 mph for all 2 lane highways.

What about 22 lane highways (plus 4 feeder lanes) in Iowa…?

Asking for my friends in West Houston…

That blows.

We have 75 on a lot of 2-lane rural roads that should probably be like 60.

And we have some 85 limits in a couple of places.

If you’re gonna crash, then you should go big.

Texans look at speed limits differently. For example most think that it’s OK to go 80 in a 75MPH zone, while they actually go 85 to 9o. Nothing is more annoying than being behind someone going the speed limit in the fast lane.

Well, tractors don’t go that fast! :tractor: :fire:

C’mon. You think we don’t have tractors on the roads here? That’s how I learned to drive.

“Speed limits” are more like “speed bare minimums” here. God help you if you decide to do 65 in a 70.
