Why is a D-1 starter only throwing 4 inn? Is he coming off an injury?

Bombs away, Coogs blast 8 runs on #21 Wake Forest!

First game of the season. It’s not unheard of for some coaches to use nine pitchers one inning each the first week.

Yeah, especially when you might not have much starting depth behind him. I don’t know if that’s the case, but you don’t blow out your #1 in the first game of the season.

We beat a ranked team to start the season, and beat them in just about every category. Let’s have a little bit of positivity. But yes, its only one game.

Hmmmm….that’s strange. A four inning win is typical for 7 inning games but not 9. Either that’s a mistake or there’s some ruling I’ve never heard of. Hopefully it sticks for him.

Yeah you normally wanna keep your starters around 80-85 max opening weekend or two…. and his first inning was a heavy workload close to 30 pitches.

I think it becomes the scorer’s decision - someone has to get the win.

There was NOTHING negative about my post….after 5 years in a row of garbage it’s going to take more than a game……I even said I want to see where they are after 10-15 games.

So go worry about something else.

That must be the case because the 5th inning guy definitely didn’t deserve it and the 3rd pitcher qualified for the save.

if you declare an inning count before the game and go min of 3, you can get the win.

Interesting. Is that a college only rule?

Coogs to the CWS !!!

No, MLB as well.

Big win to start now let’s stay the course and go 2-0.

I don’t think so. Unless something recently changed that I’m unaware of, you still have to go 5 innings as a starting pitcher to get the W in the bigs.

I hadn’t heard anything and can find nothing on the subject. I figured I’d come out this year It feels like even the Athletic Department doesn’t care, but who knows.

Its been 2-3 years since I have been as I have to admit I have just not been motivated. I used to love buying old team gear, but I can’t seem to pull the trigger now a days.

That’s something I’m not used to hearing lately…UH Baseball won.

Good way to start the season.

Not true….it is the scorers discretion to give the W to whoever they think had the most impact on the win.

Especially when relief pitching was not good……I have played in D-1 games where the starter got the win with less than 5 innings….this usually happens early in the year when starters are not stretched out yet.

The scorer has all the discretion.
