Just from what I have seen the past decade is the AAU circuit being run by people who shouldn’t be coaching.

Plus playing ISO ball, helter skelter, jacking up 50+ three pointers per game will make it tougher to evaluate players for the next level.

Texas does not have a strong youth basketball culture like North Carolina, Indiana, and other east coast states where they play it year round.

All good youth basketball players are funneled into either suburban schools, prep academies, or rich private schools.

The days of inner city districts like HISD churning out high level recruits is non-existent.

Thats a pretty good summary. I will add the special kids in Houston get pampered too much. They don’t get put through the fire playing the best in the city and the coaches don’t correct them in fear of them leaving for another team/school. There are a few HS coaches (Atastocita, Shadow Creek, etc) that demand the players play the right way but for the most part the coaching isn’t good enough. The best players in Dallas are always playing against each other and the coaching is a lot better.

I can’t comment on coaching outside of Houston but coaching in Houston has been disappointing to say the least. Just my experience.

Yes we can and very possibly will if the best players are not in Houston, so it should read that we don’t have to pick the best from Houston. Saying that, we are in a very good position to get who we want from this area.

I take it that you live in Dallas and therefore love where you live?

Coach love’s long-armed shot blockers; not too tall and not too short centers.

Marcus Spears Jr offered by Houston

His sister is at Texas that’s probably where he ends up if they offer him

Dynamic Preparatory High School, in Irving, TX, where Marcus Spears, Jr. attends, appears to be similar to IMG and Montverde Academy in Florida. I know these athletic preparatory schools are not well liked in Texas by coaches and UIL, but is there a similar preparatory school in Houston that is non-denominational?

Just because his sister is at Texas?

Sean Miller… or Kelvin Sampson’s crucible that is steadily placing players in the NBA…:thinking::thinking:

Is his sister a FR? He is still 2 years away from being there so not sure about that being the biggest indicator.

Oneal Delancy Highlights: Oneal Delancy - Florida Rebels - 2025 Nike EYBL Highlights

Great Finisher, and Great 3pt stroke, Great driver too (Rob Gray Esque) (It’s rare to see a guard with all 3 skills, pesky defender :). I definitely see why we offered him, definitely under the radar right now.

Would love to see him commit here.

He is who the coaching staff probably wanted Kordel Jefferson to become, Kordel is mainly a defender and not a scorer like Oneal.
