2027 Recruiting

Saw on On3 that UH has made the top 3 for 4 star RB out of Lake Charles, LA, Javon Vital Jr. Vital is a 2027 recruit, 5’9” speedster. His top 3 are LSU, USC, and UH. Pretty good company.

My feeling is even if a recruit chooses another school, being a finalist in his school choice this day and age gives you a leg up if the recruit ever decides to transfer. You might as well plant as many seeds as you can.

USC & LSU are in good company for sure!

Just a humorous observation…

One of the selling points for hiring Major Applewhite as UH head coach was his connections to Texas high school recruiting.

If Applewhite had as much success recruiting Texas high schoolers as Willie Fritz has had recruiting Louisiana athletes, Applewhite may still be UH head coach.

If he had that kind of success, he wouldn’t have gotten boat raced by Army, so yeah…

Just for the record, more of Applewhite’s recruits got drafted (5) than Tom Herman’s recruits (4), (and that’s including Ed Oliver as a Herman recruit even though he was only here because Levine recruited his brother).

And both Applewhite and Herman recruited here for 2 years.

Recruiting in Louisiana is easier in a lot of cases when it evens out - you can sell the city along with the school - plus 100% of them have family here anyway - once LSU falls out of the pic its open season

Here comes the Applewhite vs Herman vs other UH coaches debate in 3, 2, 1…

We are (currently) his only P4 offer & I don’t see that he’s been assigned a star ranking…

Maybe CWF & his staff are buying stock early on him

He’s certainly a large young man.

Nothing really “jumped out” at me in his film…

Kid is going to be a beast….he will have plenty of P4 offers.

Crazy athlete for his size.

And if “nothing jumped out” to you then you don’t know what you are looking at.

He had a “Power 4 Offer”, from Houston.

He committed to the Coogs.

Yes, he may get more offers, but he doesn’t need them.

He is a Coog now…

Yeah, and an athletic 6-6 270 as a junior offers a lot of possibilities.

Good lateral awareness and speed. Lot’s of potential.

Go Coogs!

Possibilities?

Yeah. He could play oline, or dline….

…for HOUSTON !

I don’t understand the mentality of some Coog Fans, who, within 24 hours of getting a commitment, begin the narrative of how we might lose him.

We were HIS 1st power 4 offer and…

…he is THE COOGS 1st commit for the 2027 class.

That makes him even more special IMO.

Yet you’re on here running with the “he’s gonna get other offers” schtick…?

That’s your prerogative. I’m simply suggesting it’s bad form…

The first offer / first to commit scenario increases the likelihood that Willie, and staff, will place a LOT of effort in continuing to develop that relationship with him as his “star ratings” inevitably go up.

But run with whatever story you want to pimp…

Dude, I simply said he will have more P4 offers to indicate he will get more attention….as well as for people to see just because he doesn’t have a ton of them now does not mean he is not a great recruit.

Your lack of comprehension is astounding.

I have been around for a looong time……and I have NEVER run down a kid or be that guy….

So next time you want to go on a diatribe and run someone down you might want to stop and think.

I overreacted to your post…

…and I’m sorry.

I think we’re on the same page. You’re just one paragraph ahead of me.

Again, sorry.

Very good pick up. At 6-6, 270 as a junior, think how big he likely will be when he graduates! Good DLs are always a premium…
