I just keep hearing we don’t have enough NIL but we signed one of the top transfer portal classes in football and basketball, brought in the #1 recruit in the nation in football and basketball (#1 center anyway) and we steadily keep putting out one of the top rosters in basketball…
NIL can’t be that bad…

I don’t think it’s bad; I think we’re in the middle of the pack when it comes to Big 12 teams. I don’t think we will have “enough” until we can spend big like Tech. Our NIL for basketball is top notch, and our football NIL is improving with each off season like you alluded to.
The Coogs have “enough” to field this roster…

A couple of points here. We know the total amount of shared revenue UH is legally required to pay its athletes, $20.5M, but I have not seen a public breakdown of the percentage each sport gets. It seems like most schools break it down as follows: 75% football, 15% men’s basketball, 10% to the remaining sports.
I think I heard or read somewhere Eddie Nunez say that UH was going to bump up basketball, because of the success of the program. This is a WAG on my part but I would guess 70-75% football, 20% basketball, 5-10% to the rest.
NIL is much trickier, in that it relates to third party brands and collectives, but the public tends to lump revenue sharing, which is separate, and NIL together. I am not sure I would believe a published number even if it was reported due to the confusion and the shadowy world of NIL.
All I know is UH seems to be getting a LOT for it’s money…

To an extent, yes, but it also depends on the amount of money and the foresight of the individual and many times, that individual’s family/advisors.
If Makhi Hughes can return to his Tulane form, this will be a wonderful season.

If you don’t think NIL is playing a role in where a player signs, and I know you do, consider that the top 10 Alabama high school recruits did not sign with Alabama and went elsewhere. Three signed with Auburn and the rest went out-of-state.

Texas HC Steve Sarkisian commenting on having to let players go, to create cap space for better players. This is the dark side of college sports that does not get enough publicity. Schools like Texas are constantly recruiting over players. Makes you wonder why a player would want to go to Texas, despite NIL. You always have the threat of being recruited over.

I certainly agree, but what crossed the line for me was naming the players who were recruited over. The players who gave sweat equity and contributed to the program.
There was no need to name the players and embarrass them. No consideration for the players involved.
WR Parker Livingstone was one of the ones named and transferred to OU. I would love to see him go off in the OU-Texas game.
