Playing in a depleted league. Big whoop.
They did all that and got passed over by Liberty during bowl selection. Had to go to Fenway or somewhere terrible
Are you saying our current talent is on par with ISU, K-State, OSU, etc? Our only difference is we aren’t prepared?
Being in the mix in the current recruiting cycle has nothing to do with the current talent on the roster.
Im saying according to the same sources that rate guys like Carlise and Henderson, yes we are. I’ve already posted this numerous times.
According to some Coogfans posters who accept the validity of Henderson’s ranking but deny the validity of our talent ranking, no we’re not.
I’ve never seen these rankings before. Interesting. I’d love to see a breakdown by position. Do you know what Donovan Smith’s ranking was when he was recruited out of high school? Or any of the offensive linemen?
They’re the Team Talent Composite rankings. They are an aggregate of all Recruitung services (247, ESPN, Rivals). Not sure about On3(spelling) in these.
-Smith was the 38th ranked QB in the country.
-Jenkins was a consensus 4 star (92 ovr) and 9th ranked guard in the country.
-Dunn was ranked 55th at his position
-Ndukwe was ranked 53rd at his position
-Wiley was ranked 58th at his position and the #12 player in the state of Colorado.
-Pancake Hunter…doesn’t need his rankings posted. His nickname is pancake.
All serviceable players who are upperclassmen. Do i think that they are world beaters? Nope. Do i see them as the weakness in the offense? Of course. Are the coaches to blame? Absolutely.
Do other teams have flaws in their roster? Yes, it’s college football…any team can be exploited. Do our coaches have the ability to overcome that weakness by elevating something else?
Doesn’t look like it.
Yes. For what they paid, the ROI isn’t there, relatively speaking.
We’re in the age of “paying to succeed.” It’s not surprise they’re able to recruit well when they have a ton of deep pocket donors. The media deal with ACC is moot. That would mainly go to the school and facilities if they were getting money. Now that they’re in the ACC, recruits are seeing the money AND the stage.
The SMU BMDs can do what they want with their money, but at some point, ROI has to come into play, otherwise the money dries up. And what happens when a player gets his NIL bag, puts a good performance on tape, and then transfers?
What are your thoughts given the new information?
Doesn’t matter if you bring in 30 five star players a year. If coaches can’t develop, it doesn’t mean squat.
Thanks for pinging me again. The day got away from me.
It’s interesting. I hope you didn’t feel like I thought the team was completely devoid of talent. There is some talent. You listed 5 players. Are the other 4 stars seeing the field? Are they being red shirted? I honestly don’t know. I think CWF is a very good coach. You don’t do what you did at Tulane without being able to recruit and coach. He just didn’t all of a sudden become a bad coach when he stepped onto our campus.
Smith was a highly rated QB, so what happened between then and now? Was he overrated because of his size? We can’t say on one hand we have the talent, then on the other say Smith is terrible (I don’t know if you are in the “I hate Smith camp”).
Bottom line…we are having a bad year so far. I’m not surprised. All off season, we told each other be patient…it will take time for CWF to recruit and develop…All new coaches get a pass the first year. All that went out the window faster than a Nolan Ryan fastball.
I’m willing to be patient and see how this plays out over the next 3 years. People may say “we don’t have 3 years”. That doesn’t matter. As empty as our cupboard was, I think that’s how long it will take. It would be awesome if we are at 8 wins next year, but I think that’s unrealistic.
Nothing. On to the next one. Bring the check book out again.
This is why this NIL bubble will pop eventually
Name the current nine, 4 star players you referenced on your post that you say are currently on staff.
I believe most of them have transferred once we got a new coach.
The last coach that came back from a bad first year to have a successful second year was Jack Pardee.
This is what he is referencing

It uses original HS rank vs transfer rank for guys who hit portal so highest rated player is a transfer but uses HS rating. It really would make more sense to use “latest ranking data” if trying to judge team talent using ranking data since some guys were given lower rankings as portal guys and others higher ratings but there are lots of transfers on our roster that don’t have a transfer ranking.
What the list really highlights is how weak our OL is.
Does it not calculate transfer recruits?
First, I really like our players.
All 9 of them are 4 star players out of high school on 247Sports Composites.
Four of them are direct UH high school recruits and the others are transfers that are now 3 stars or no stars.
