Don’t look now, but SMU’s average football recruit rating for the '25 class is ahead of every team in the Big12 except for Central Florida which is only slightly ahead of them.
It appears that SMU’s move to the ACC is going to pay off in spades!..It’s “Pony Up”…$$$
Yes, just like recent UH teams. In fact (like Rob Williams was against North Carolina in the Final Four in New Orleans back in 1982), UH is “0 for Saturday” against BYU. UH football is 0-3 all-time against BYU.
This is where I like that the transfer portal allows for free agents every year. Go to SMU from high school, get your NIL bag and some highlight tape, and come to UH and play before your family for more games.
Remember: It is not whether they sign. It is whether they stay.
Their money will dry up eventually. As rich as their alums are, they aren’t going to invest in a losing program forever. Don’t think they’ll ever have sustained success at this level.
Eventually smu donors will exhaust their resources. Tillman could single handedly fund a nat championship at UH but even he gets donor fatigue and feels some of this buying players is a huge waste of resources for the ROI. A&M found this out.
Let smu burn thru some money for nothing and regardless of what people think people don’t have an endless supply. Kids of rich smu parents will say dad, if your wasting thousands on something that won’t pan out why not buy me a house?
A&M spent 25m for nothing and I read their donors were put off from that and it’s why Lsu and their coach mentioned we have to be smart about what we’re paying for in this nil climate after the A&M disaster.
Based on the 247 ranking, not the composite ranking, UH is third in the Big 12 and #34 overall. Having said that, I’m not sure how much the recruiting rankings truly matter when the team in first place in the conference has an average recruit ranking of 87.7, and the team in ninth place is at 87.2. How many players you sign really affects the rankings.

This is why people banging on the “lack of talent” drum need to realize we’re right in the mix with the rest of the conference. We may lack in certain categories but every team does to a degree.
There are only prepared and unprepared teams. Use what you have or let someone else do the job.
