A little Memphis drama + poll question

Damaria Franklin transferred to Memphis late in August. Well his former coach at UIC, isnt signing his waiver. Allowing him to be immediately eligible (UIC = University of Illinois Chicago)

The article mentions that Franklin and his family have personally reached out to his former coach, but have received no response. Ouch.

First game is in like 2 weeks.

Pretty funny hearing Penny say “drop your ego” .

Seems like they could call the AD. This looks bad for the other coaches. I wouldn’t want to play for a guy that does that. But, then again, I probably wouldn’t want to play for Penny either. He signs people’s paperwork before they wake up in the morning.

Shocker that there is drama in Memphis. I am sure there is more to this than “just signing the paperwork “

It wouldn’t surprise me if the UIC coach is wanting a “transfer fee”

I suspect the UIC coach is irritated that the player was set to be their star player and waited until August to decide to transfer leaving UIC with a major starting lineup hole and almost no time to fill it from same transfer market. This was probably NIL driven.

Or maybe he suspects tampering.

I think kids can leave freely, but I don’t think it’s okay for other coaches to recruit signed players.

Subtle difference, but probably very frustrating to a coach who’s trying to build a program and keep his job.

Nothing wrong with the portal….good for the kids.

I probably would have transferred to a bigger school back in the day had I had an opportunity.

But when you split late like that you make it hard on the coaching staff and the players on that team……especially if you were going to be a go to guy.

Seems to me the NCAA is investigating the transfer. More trouble for Memphis

RWcoo- no reason for NCAA to investigate unless the kid or his parents made a complaint.

It is the same thing every year with the Memphis/ Penny program !!

They just can’t keep it within the rules !

Nor do they try :sunglasses:

When it it rains in pours

Memphis latest scrimmage:

*4 for 20 from 3pt

We had 10 turnovers in our scrimmage vs Duke.

Memphis had 19!

And they jump right into the fire :fire: with Vandy, St Louis and VCU.

I appreciate these interesting games by Penny, as a CBK fan. But, it could backfire.

They may be below .500 entering conference. Can see them losing 7 or more games.

Coogs are -350 to win the AAC this year. Memphis with next best odds at +650. That is quite the disparity!

And they are even quite over rated to get that much love

How many non conference losses will Memphis have?

  • 3 losses (9-3 record)
  • 4 losses (8-4 record)
  • 5 losses (7-5 record)
  • 6 losses (6-6 record)
  • 7+ losses

Memphis plays in the ESPN Events Invitational. 1st game is neutral vs Seton Hall. But should play 2 additional games in that MTE

Its also who you beat. Ole Miss, VCU, Seton Hall. If none of those are borderline tourney teams, then who cares if you beat them. U need Q1 and Q2 wins

Is that Deangelo Williams name there again? Holy crap that dude has been in school since 2000! lol
