My guess is even luxury goods are being bought online at a rate sufficient to tank revenues at upscale brick-and-mortar department stores and/or buyers of luxury goods like the exclusivity of small boutiques. JUST A GUESS!!

More the segmentation of retail. Department stores are going away. Macy’s has been in and out of bankruptcy. Only Nordstroms has avoided court but for how long? Heck, even the previous fashion hotshot, Lulemon, is struggling.
It seems that whatever fashion that becomes hot becomes mass produced in China quickly.
So much for tariffs; revenue plateau reached.
What comes next ?
government posted a $145 billion budget deficit for December, up 67% or $58 billion from a year earlier due to record outlays that were inflated by calendar shifts in benefit payments and receipts, the Treasury Department said on Tuesday.
The report showed that revenue growth from President xxxxxx tariffs may have plateaued, as December net customs receipts totaled $27.9 billion, down from the low $30 billion range in recent months but far above the $6.8 billion recorded in December 2024.

New round of tariffs being threatened, starting soon, over Greenland.
- US President Donald T rump announces plans to hit the UK, Denmark and other European countries with a 10% tariff on “all or any goods” exported to the US from 1 February
