AAU Adds 6 New Members

Now the B1G can invite Notre Dame and keep its reputation for only inviting AAU schools.

The AAU Country Club

The Association of American Universities announced today that Arizona State University; the George Washington University; the University of California, Riverside; the University of Miami; the University of Notre Dame; and the University of South Florida have joined the association. The addition of these six leading research universities brings AAU’s membership total to 71 institutions – 69 American and two Canadian universities.

“We are particularly proud that two of our new members – Arizona State and UC Riverside – are designated as Hispanic-serving institutions because significant shares of their student bodies are individuals from Hispanic backgrounds, and that UC Riverside is also an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institution. We look forward to working with all of these universities to continue advancing higher education and laying the scientific foundation that helps keep our economy strong and our nation healthy and safe.”

What? Isn’t UH more diverse?

That’s an actual quote of their criteria

Well, now the B1G can add ND as an AAU peer.

Happy to see ND make it, because until now, there has not been a Catholic university in the AAU. They even beat out Georgetown to be the first!

I will now modify my prediction.

Previously, I said that to get a B1G invite, a school would need to be either a) AAU, or b) ND.

Now I will say that ONLY AAU schools will get a B1G invite.

USF made it ahead of us??? UGH!!! Renu came from there. She’d better get us there as well!!!

As for Miami, perhaps when the ACC disintegrates, the B1G can consider adding them.

This also means that there’s now a chance that when the ACC folds, the B1G can grab BOTH GaTech (Atlanta Market) and Miami (Miami market) and give themselves a foothold in the SE to compete with the SEC.

How close are we, in terms of research dollars & other AAU metrics, to these six?

In terms of ARWU:

Ariz St 40-54

GW, Riverside, Miami and USF are all in our category (63-85).

Notre Dame is 86-106.

USF 4 year graduation rate is like 60% compared to UH 38%. Their research expenditures are also nearly double what UH is.

Ya gotta wonder if the B1G pulled some strings for ND.

We’ve got to get our graduation rates up but to do that, it would take a major shift from our original mission statement.

Is it worth it? I mean, FSU’s mission was created as an all women’s teaching school.
Texas A& M was created to be a n all white, male Agricultural school.

they BOTH evolved!

Should we adjust our mission statement? Our statement of…Helping the working class Houstonian graduate, at THEIR pace, is really hurting our rankings. Not only hurting…destroying us.

Can we filter some of the longer timeline students to the satellite campuses?

We all know Senator Whitmiter will attack Dr. Khator again if she even brings up a Freshman housing initiative.

We really needed that housing mandate.

Whitmire friggin’ RUINED it for us.

That will DEFINITELY help with our graduation rates.

Don’t succeed at first try try again… Whitmire isn’t going to be around forever.

4 year Graduation rates are killing us!

Just commenting before someone blames UT for not sharing the PUF fund or somehow it is CDH’s fault.

Whitmire help us get in B12 and fought off UT-Houston campus. Let’s not upset the man. For now!!

How about we implement a reward system for students who graduate in 5 years or less with deductions on their student loans or a reimbursement of the tuition of their final 30 hour credits (senior year).

It was Patrick and Abbott that did that.

Whitmire didn’t do JACK.
