The Association of American Universities announced today that Arizona State University; the George Washington University; the University of California, Riverside; the University of Miami; the University of Notre Dame; and the University of South Florida have joined the association. The addition of these six leading research universities brings AAU’s membership total to 71 institutions – 69 American and two Canadian universities.
“We are particularly proud that two of our new members – Arizona State and UC Riverside – are designated as Hispanic-serving institutions because significant shares of their student bodies are individuals from Hispanic backgrounds, and that UC Riverside is also an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving institution. We look forward to working with all of these universities to continue advancing higher education and laying the scientific foundation that helps keep our economy strong and our nation healthy and safe.”
This also means that there’s now a chance that when the ACC folds, the B1G can grab BOTH GaTech (Atlanta Market) and Miami (Miami market) and give themselves a foothold in the SE to compete with the SEC.
We’ve got to get our graduation rates up but to do that, it would take a major shift from our original mission statement.
Is it worth it? I mean, FSU’s mission was created as an all women’s teaching school.
Texas A& M was created to be a n all white, male Agricultural school.
they BOTH evolved!
Should we adjust our mission statement? Our statement of…Helping the working class Houstonian graduate, at THEIR pace, is really hurting our rankings. Not only hurting…destroying us.
Can we filter some of the longer timeline students to the satellite campuses?
We all know Senator Whitmiter will attack Dr. Khator again if she even brings up a Freshman housing initiative.
How about we implement a reward system for students who graduate in 5 years or less with deductions on their student loans or a reimbursement of the tuition of their final 30 hour credits (senior year).
