“Whether it was a joke or not…”

It was a joke; many at the party said it was a joke. Reporters ran with it thinking it was serious.

Tell Tony Levine that it’s a joke…

We fired Levine because he lost to UTSA and Tulane at home his last year in a season where they should have easily gone 10-2 or better with their schedule.

Not all 8-4 records are equal.

This is just another example of the media putting us in our place for having high aspirations. We just can’t get it through our thick skulls that we’re not in a P5 so it’s unrealistic for us to shoot for 10 win seasons on a regular basis, or dare to think that a coach might consider this a job worth keeping. It’s a good thing we have media members watching to make sure we stay in our place.

So many media organizations put getting clicks above everything. So frustrating.

So many overreactions to this and it’s pretty innocent. Is it normal that someone’s remarks at a holiday party hosted in their home are recorded and sent out to the press? Seems tacky.

Nonsense like this is yet another reason why nobody has confidence in any form of media.

Well said. Tillman said in one of his interviews that over the 5-year contract that there might well be 8-5 season or two. You don’t hire a new coach and immediately threaten his job security. But UH does expect, and rightfully so, to have some really big seasons and become a fixture - not every year, but regularly - in the NY6. You win the AAC and you can generally expect to be playing in a NY6 bowl. Much ado about nothing.
