Altitude not Attitude

Well if Weigman was hurt and obviously underperforming they should have tried Henderson for a couple of series just to see what he could do

AT UTAH? With 52000 screaming fans? ahhh NO

When would you have actually made the move? We didn’t trail until the 4th quarter. After we lost the lead we started the next three drives only down a point. I don’t think any coach would’ve benched their senior QB for a freshman with virtually zero game experience in that situation.

could be an issue, going from houston to the divide at 11,000 feet same day never bothered me but it has bothered others. if a few key players were affected might have thrown them off some.

Weigman clearly wasn’t himself and was limping around, rushing things and sailing balls over receivers as a result. At minimum, it couldn’t have been any worse with the freshman.

It was a tough call.

Altitude didn’t lose the game.

If fans would watch the replays, they would clearly see coaching decisions that backfired.

Not going for a FG on 4th down in the 1st Q,

On fourth down with 1:30 left in the game, instead of going for a 1st down to keep the drive alive, we opted for a
.

high risk, under pressure pass to Kobe Young in the back of the end zone that was overthrown

while missing a wide open Amare Thomas for an easy TD.

Everyone looks at these hotshot freshman like lottery tickets. Just put him in for a quarter!!!

The reality is you’d get a few moments of excitement. A few moments of disappointment. But they don’t usually move the needle considerably unless they’re given the keys for a solid 30-40 minutes.

I’m willing to let the guy chill out and stay healthy and keep watching and practicing with the big kids. He’s gonna get his chance.

Again, when specifically would you guys have pulled him?

UH doesn’t need to bring in Henderson in a tight game against a formidable opponent unless Weigman is seriously injured and can’t return.

The best scenario to play freshman Henderson is when the outcome of the game is not in doubt.

A slightly injured Weigman is still lethal. He’s that good. A warrior, a leader and winner.

If I knew the players like CWF knows the players, I would have left Weigman in the game. All we know about Henderson is that he was a star in high school and played well in the spring scrimmage. We don’t know his best attributes nor his greatest liabilities – but Fritz does. CWF made his decision based on actual knowledge of the kid’s game, not high school hype.

In the 2nd half, when he offense stopped moving. He couldn’t scramble and was having trouble hitting relievers.

He led us to scores on both of our drives in the 3rd quarter. So you’re basically saying that after just one or two empty possessions after that, you would bench your starting senior QB to bring in a freshman that has virtually no starting experience on the road, late in the 4th quarter, to try and win the game against a top 10 opponent? Sorry man but that’s insane.

The last I counted , there were TEN GUYS out there with Weigman. IMO He didn’t get a lot of help @ UTAH. IF Henderson was ready and capable HE would be the starter. PERIOD. I am not a fan of moves that smell like desperation and putting Henderson in in a close winnable game smells like desperation.

To me it’s a simple calculation. Bad things would outnumber the good things and not nearly worth the risk.

Kevin Kolb is an outlier but he knew the Briles offense in and out.

This!

Yeah, winning the conference 'ship is overrated anyway

Three points in the first half and zero in the fourth. He even had some runs that normally he could take further, including one that should have been taken to the house but he instead dropped down and slid and it was obvious that it was because he was favoring his ankle. It couldn’t have been worse with Henderson, who by the way is the number 2 qb. It’s not like he is down the depth chart.

It absolutely could’ve been worse with Henderson. In fact, depending on when you made the move I think it’s almost a guarantee it would’ve been. Conner moved the ball. In the first half we were on the goal line twice and came away with 3 points. Thats not all on Conner. The O-Line was getting pushed back all games. The backs weren’t much help. And our AA TE got knocked out of the game early. Again once we got to the 2nd half he led us to back to back scoring drives. No coach is pulling their starting QB in that situation. If Fritz had done that, there would be even more posters second guessing the move after the loss.

And where Henderson ranks in the depth chart is meaningless. We’re not comparing him to another back up QB. We’re comparing him to Weigman. Henderson has virtually no college experience. He would not have come in and done as good as what Conner was doing on a gimp leg.
