And the beating continues… Nice job
Nearly all posters have acknowledged that tariffs can have their place. I’m a free trader and even I don’t hate them all.
But I haven’t found any clear purpose to what we are doing. In fact, multiple purposes have been given, some of which are contradictory.
Bingo! Tariffs used with a precise plan for specific products as well as a strategy to encourage onshoring is a good thing. I am all for us being able to manufacture PPE for healthcare and generics meds, especially antibiotocs in the US. It was a lesson/vulnerability that was learned during covid.
I like the giphy once but you keep using it over and over again. Have some imagination for once. You have other giphys at your disposal.
Personally, I feel like I have a pretty solid rotation of gifs. But I’m a big kid who can take some criticism I could always more to the rotation.
But also…
That Billy Madison gif is a classic. Regular use is both allowed and encouraged.
That one is pretty funny too:
By the way is that a perfectly good laptop he is throwing around? That is a lot of angst there. Is this for real?
You’re unlikely to find a Billy Madison gif I don’t like.
Not Billy Madison but just as good:
I mean it’s pro wrestling is anything for real? But if he did it this year the new laptop is going to be 30% more expensive
Ford saying just that…
“When pushed, and given that decisions regarding production lines are made “on a 20-year basis,” Farley stated that the final “judgment call” would only be made when “the financial numbers look compelling” and “the [tariff] policy is permanent.””
It would be dumb to make a long term decision based on short term circumstances. And everything about this is short term. Even the current China deal is only good for 90 days…maybe.
This can’t be good, CBO projects that the government’s interest rate never exceeds 3.6% over 30 years. If rates remain at 4.5%, that adds $40 trillion more to interest costs over 30 years - as much as adding a second Defense Department.
The proposed tax bill will add a few billion to debt as well.
Best Buy ordered massive amounts of imports and is starting a gigantic Memorial Day weekend sale.
If a consumer must buy something imported this year, and Best Buy has it, go get it now. They, literally, are offering 30% off. A washer/dryer can be obtained for $1,000 or so.
Their customers will not be hit by higher prices caused by Tariffs.
Might be a good strategy.
5 years ago I bought a 55" tv from Best Buy for about $700, Now the 75" by the same company can be had at Sam’s for $429. Even if they bump up 30%, I’ll be buying bigger for less than 5 years ago.
Yup as long as big TVs stay cheap the revolution will not be televised
If you happen to need a W/D right now. Everyone else who needs one 6 months from now would pay more. I guess we go buy W/D and leave it in box in living room until the day ours finally dies. Wife should be cool with that.
If you buy today you’ll never have to worry about inflation. What’s was all that inflation fuss about
This just in Best Buy is having a Memorial Day sale… Like they do every year
