Holds more weight than any naysayer’s opinion here.
Not really

Does that involve trash cans?

Sure.
As if anyone here either a) knows baseball better than Bregman, or b) knows Davis better than Bregman.
They don’t.
It’s not like Bregman is the poster boy for moral character.
That’s your opinions. Seems you’re putting all your eggs in one basket, one guys opinion. After your dumb inbred discussions got shot down you shifted to one guy’s opinion. I could search for a major league ball player who thinks it’s not a good hire.
There’s a handful of people here I trust on this issue equally as, or more than Bregman, he’s just one guy with an opinion. Your hyperbole in your first post on the thread is what I have issue with.
One objective source ranking college baseball conferences (Warren Nolan). Not among the best (is that what you expected?), but think of all the teams in all the conferences they outrank:
SEC
ACC
Big 12
Big 10
Sun Belt
Southern
American
CUSA
WAC
Southland
Big West
Ohio Valley
Big South
Coastal Athletic
Big East
Mountain West
MAC
A10
ASUN
West Coast
American East
Ivy League
Patriot League
Missouri Valley
That would put the Southland squarely in the Top Half of D1 baseball conferences.
Winning it, as Davis has, is no small thing.
Again though, no one here either knows baseball or knows Davis better than Bregman. Anyone claiming otherwise is deluding themselves.
So to be clear….if he gets UH one auto bid in 10 years then you are cool with it ? Correct?
Because that is what he has done at Lamar.
And I had forgotten how dialed in to the recruiting seen in Texas Bregman is….right?
Is he from Texas? Did he play HS or college ball in Texas? Has he ever coached or recruited in Texas?
No to everything.
A 4th or 5th place Big12 finish and you’re in. Not so for the Southland. Apples and oranges.
If this were pro ball, I’d rate the SLC and Lamar as AA. Barring a huge upset today, you will see how good they are when they play the MLB team that beat them 25-5 earlier this year.
Irrelevant.
The truth is determined by what is accomplished within the conference. Equal level of ground as it translates into recruiting.
That’s fine if finishing 1st-4th in a weak conference, one auto bid in nine seasons, and no chance of an at-large bid meets a programs expectations. If he couldn’t recruit well enough to dominate the SLC the way UCLA did the Big 10, I don’t see him being successful in the Big 12.
So the previous killed thread is revived here, lol. Look, the deal is done. Davis is the coach whether we like it or not. We’ll see next season if there are big enough improvements in all aspects of this program to get this team into the Big 12 tournament at the very least. And in the years after that we’ll see if the program has progressed enough to go deep into regionals and eventually to Omaha. If not, we hire a new HC. Real Coogs will wish for the former. For the sake of the program can we please just get along now?
Go Coogs!
And Sean Allen has never been a head coach, much less won a conference title as a head coach.
So comparatively……advantage Davis.
It is what it is.
Would you rather hire someone with NO HC experience, and who is on that basis alone UNPROVEN in that role, or would you rather hire someone with recent conference title level HC experience on a team in a top half D1 conference?
Please be candid in your response!
Maybe you can answer why no one else has ever seen fit to offer Allen a head coaching job, even on a SLC team.
Please be candid in your response!
P.S., Bregman knows baseball and Davis better than you.
Period.
Full stop.
Apparently you didn’t see the conference rankings. Referring to the Southland as weak is way off base, coaches in that conference have to recruit to that level. They’re never going to compare to the Power 4. But Lamar’s record/rank in the Southland the last 5 years speaks well for playing at that level. Not a power 4, but certainly not weak either.
I hope we’re building a statue of Coach Davis in future but you’re delusional acting like he’s this sure fire raising star that programs are fighting over to hire. He was barely over .500, they got hot at right time and won the SLC Tournament and the auto bid 1 time in 10 years. Nunez is familiar with him, got him cheap and is rolling the dice… nothing more nothing less. It’s win-win for AD…works out great…if not, replace him in few years when UH AD is in better financial shape
I often look at the conference rankings but I also look deeper than that. Not one team in the SLC came close to an at-large bid this year. That doesn’t have to be your idea of weak but it is mine. A conference that would almost never have a NCAA tourney rep if it weren’t for auto-bids.
