Good breakdown of the shots we took and how effective we were.

Like I said before I was dumbfounded when Miller came in and he started jacking 3s and joined the chorus of Houston jump shot brickers for the night. It’s almost like coaches told players to not even try to get to the rim. They were long but I don’t think particularly good blocking shots. Hopefully Samson didn’t tell them not to attack as part of the game plan and then double down during the game on that which is what it looked like but I can’t believe that is what happened. I assume we were taking the open shots they gave us and just didn’t make them and decided to quit that approach too late. Their bigs blocked one shot on us

Yeah, it was very frustrating seeing us not change strategies when it was obvious the 3s weren’t falling.

Perhpas the coaches did tell the guys to drive it to the rim, they just didn’t listen and all tried playing hero ball :man_shrugging:t4:

Miller’s three point attempts were good looks though. I was fine with them

The real problem was Cenak could not hit an open 12-15 footer in the first 10 minutes. They were daring him to shoot, and he did. Took away shots from Flemings and Sharp, so they never got comfortable and in rythm.

I pointed out elsewhere the reason we did not shoot free throws was because we would not go inside. Whatever the case, we could not hit from outside and made few tries inside. Game over.

Well it’s more ominous in hindsight that Coach’s halftime comment against a&m was “I wish more of the first shots would go in.” Illinois didn’t contest many shots, but this team has been a terrible first shot team all year. Like many years, we won on offensive rebounds and second chance points. What Illinois did was be really tall and in zone so they always had position for rebounding, and we got almost zero second chance shots.
