Andrew Luck-Stanford

Named the new GM at Stanford.

Keep an eye on Stanford.

They can be the most powerful NIL program IF they wanted to. Huge market + rich powerful alums

Im still laughing at the “ACC will implode” people who think their schools will beg the Big 12 for a spot

The ACC ia in very good shape. They are about to get three playoff spots compared to our one.

I don’t think Luck makes Stanford great. There are a lot of different pieces to the puzzle. I have never wanted the ACC to implode. I think having four power conferences keeps things stabilized. So I’m fine if the ACC has a lot of good teams. Anything that puts competitive pressure on the SEC is a good thing.

Luck and his father are wonderful people. I agree, Stanford has a lot going for it.

Stanford is one of the few FBS schools who could go Independent and sustain it.

Also, Luck was interested in UT but was told to look elsewhere because they already decided on Garrett Gilbert.

It’ll take more than this hire to turn Stanford around.

Hell, they just lost to San Jose State to wrap up another losing season. 3-9. 2-6 in ACC.

Their academic environment makes the transfer portal largely a non-starter. TP athletes are generally looking for playing time and money with minimal academic distractions.

And their Rice-like fan base that doesn’t care about football means they can’t be a big NIL school.

Doesn’t really matter what they “want” to do.

Those handicaps aren’t going away.

Six straight losing seasons.

No winning season in the NIL era.

There are reasons for that which aren’t going away.

UH isn’t much better off NIL-wise.

BUT….UNLIKE Stanford, no school is more ideally suited to benefit from the transfer portal than UH.

If SMU can turn it around in 2-3 years and put themselves in contention for a National Championship, Stanford definitely can!

Not really.

SMU has rich fans that care enough about football to buy a team.

Stanford alums, by contrast, are more like Rice alums.

They don’t care.

VERY different animal.

I have noticed more and more teams are hiring GMs to handle NIL and roster management and let the football coaches focus on….football.

Not surprising since we are witnessing the evolution of college sports to professional sports.

Yep 4 power conferences helps us bc we have another on our side vs sec and big10 power vs just the big12

I agree 100%

16 is already too big of a conference… why add 4 more middle of the road schools?

SMU fought to bend rules years ago to compete from accepting jucos and lower admission standards - Stanford will never :joy:

Think it’s a little hyperbolic to call Stanfords fan base Rice like.
